Quote: "which will ... have innumerable effects on the music production industry."

I don't think it will at all.
Musicians will still create and produce their music as always. If anything, it will reduce the number of bad artists we get who try to to pass themselves off as 'great' (Britney Spears, et al).

Quote: "I've downloaded music in the past... if you like an artist enough to buy their cds... can get their music more widely known"

You've contradicted yourself there... How would your friends have known that the music was good enough to buy if you hadn't downloaded it in first place? What's stopping them from breaking from your morals and simply keeping and using the files they downloaded?

I mean I play them the music or lend them the cds to have a listen to. And there's nothing stopping them, but should I just think "Oh I might meet someone who has a different moral position on any given subject than I do, therefore I should just give up on morals entirely"

Actually... That could be quite fun...

Also for record companys less profit->less likely to take risks on new artists and therefore it becomes harder for small artists to reach a wide audience. Also less profits means reduced production costs to lessen risk, resulting in lower recording standards, and less employment in the industry.

Plus it's just not nice.

Quote: "Weird Al? I liked Weenie In A Bottle and Amish Paradise when I was like 11, "which backstreet boy is gay" was always good for a laugh in year 8 and one of my little sisters likes "That's your horoscope for today" but... do you not find it really immature?"

I don't think so, his lyrics often far more well thought out than the songs he parodies. I think listening to rap at my age would be more immature if you look at the common content of those songs.

^^^ Agreed 100%.

It's not immature music per se. The lyrics are actually very smart-- I would consider him a very talented artist. I saw him live too many years ago, and it was the most entertaining concert I've been to.

I'm sorry I just don't see it. As far as I can tell, it's like what little kids do; rewording well known songs to make a few of their mates laugh.

demon #3 is one of my wifes ringtones though the second verse of that song is the funniest.

As for weenie in a bottle, as far as I know that is not an Al song, it does not appear on his catalog page or unreleased materials.

I think Al's lyrics are much more creative than these

They may be more creative. That still doesn't make them mature; they're inventive in a childish way.

I prefer the childish humour to what the average rapper throws in their songs nowadays tbh, talking about "hoes" (which, unless I missed something, are still gardening tools) or cursing every 2nd word, which in my opinion is a lot more childish as it shows they've got nothing intelligent to say.

[Edit]: For example, taking a verse out of Kanye West's song Stronger which seems to be really popular at the moment:

(Might offend people, strong-ish language):

Sorry Kent, too much swearing.

Hmmm it's true. And Kanye is supposed to be one of the more intellectual rappers around apparently... Compared to like Eminem, DMX, 50 Cent, Ludacris... all that lot.

And I'm not saying other music is intellectual. Some of the lyrics[Link Removed - JessT] (DON'T READ THIS if you're easily offended - mods if you think it's too bad to put a link up to then remove it not me please) could have been written by any 6 year old with a particularly vulgar vocabulary and a couple of gory killing sprees behind them. It's not that the lyrics aren't intellectual - I can cope with that if the music's good. It's that the sole purpose of the song is to be funny. And it's just not.

But it is, if you like your cheesy sense of humour, it's great. Like everything, it's down to opinion, I wouldn't be able to listen to it all the time, but sometimes it's quite good for a laugh
