DarkArena: Towers

This is my current WIP. I've got DA:T as smooth as it's going to get for an outdoor arena. Most of the time, the FPS sticks at or above 28, so I think it will be manageable. I will probably make some more interiors beneath the "ground" floor.

I'm experimenting with NVGs and will test with a few people before release to see if it makes it more fun or just gets in the way. The NVG feature is mapped to the "~" key, so it doesn't get in the way when typing during multiplayer. Thanks to Plystire for the script help to make the key toggle!

Looks good, but I'd blur the goggles quite a bit, they would be really out of focus. If you were to put them on for real, then they would also be a lot bigger, you'd only see the edges.

The comments and suggestions so far.

I have a serious question though. You guys say make the goggles bigger. Okay, well how to you fit a rectangle into a square without squashing it?

I don't want a simple oval, circle or box like many I've seen. Since we can't have a battery draining or shields waining, there has to be some negative aspect to offset the good aspect (seeing in the dark).

I'm not much of an artist, so if someone could draw it out for me I'd appreciate it.

DarkFact, if you want to make the goggles bigger, you can take the same exact hud and just resize it to fit almost the whole screen. You can do this easily with a program like Adobe Photoshop or anything similar. Infact, you can just resize the top and bottom part to almost fit the top and bottom of the screen.

EDIT: Oh and here is the current suggestions:

-More gun types
-Fix the respawing
-Make invisible wall boundaries to go with the invisible segment ones.
-Add some more objects that players can see as scenery or duck behind (that includes the very dark areas)
-More health packs
-Bigger goggles

You got an unofficial sneak peak at Phoenix Sentry Stealth. shhhhhh

@Snipesould: Thanks for playing and for the suggestions dude. All will be done. So you're all saying that you'd rather the goggles be proportioned wrong to get more on the screen?

I don't know what you mean by proportioned, but what I'm trying to say is, you should have the goggles take up more of the screen. OH and check your email!

Yeah dark he's saying that
ok my 2 bits I love the map Great places to hide and shoot from. 1 thing though add 1 more sniper some place to get the person with the sniper But as for the lower if you want people to go down there add a spawn point down there too.

All in all I love the Nightvision adds a little extra to the game play

/OFFTOPIC
It has the options of Professional, but no footprint. The one you saw is MY logo and design...Yours would be different. The other special thing is that it's all on a single form for better compatibility. There were 3 or 4 people reporting the same error with PGPS. These same people are now running PGPS error free. Plus, Phoenix Sentry Stealth uses 0% CPU cycles and less than 8 MB of system RAM. Anyway, it's been totally re-written. It's not released yet though.

@Woolfman: You'd love another sniper rifle nest! LOL

Okay, no problem. I want to make 2 opposing towers a level taller also. I'm going to keep part of the underground level to give some balance and a place to run and hide.

@m man: There is an underground already man. You just never found it. LOL. Go back and check it out. It's almost as big as DA: Complex all by itself.

Thanks for the game and the great feedback guys. Another update's coming tomorrow. ~DF

@Mr Makealotofsmoke: You got it buddy. I'll send you a link to the current test map. Keep in mind it's not much other than segments and lighting. I'm updating it today with entities.

@olliday: I'm sending you the link as well.

@Underside: Got your new entities and will check it all out this morning. The full version of DA:T *Should be* released in time for Saturday/Sunday play. ~DF

@DarkFact
Yeah I like the look of the goggles, I hope you didnt think otherwise. I like the art alot also, something i know i would not be able to make the right size and look. My comment was more based towards the nose area but not intended as negative. Great work as allways!!

I'll send you a email soon also.

@deca: Don't worry, bro. I don't take offense. 2D is not my strenth, nor is HUD making. LOL

I'm going to work on this HUD image today and "bring it in closer to the face" so to speak. After running away from Snipesoul, Woolfman and M Man for an hour last night, I got a bit annoyed at the size of the mask.

Thanks for the great input so early into this guys!

Thanks bro! I would map it to N or G for a single person game, but for multiplayer I use ~ to keep it from getting in the way during MP chat.

Updated Goggle HUD:

Wow! Those goggles look so much better! It is also more helpful since you can actualy get more of your view with it now, and that you can still see the hud for health, ammo, and lives on the top.
