Hmmm. Is an alternative to ketchup. When you are a kid normally you have ketchup on everything and your dad has brown sauce (which you hate). As you get older it grows on you. A lot. There is even a brand called Daddies. Must be like mustard or something. Actually I read somewhere that your tastebuds change as you get older so you should try stuff you never liked as a kid. I can now eat sprouts without covering the walls in puke for example

Cheers

I still can't eat sprouts, but that's more due to the horrific sight of a mate eating the mankiest sprout you'll ever see, I mean this thing was beige and slimey, he ate it for a £5 bet. Thing is I like every other vegetable, especially broccoli, but sprouts are just evil.

Brown sauce seems to be only really popular in the UK huh!, I love the stuff, I mean it's not like we even call tomato ketchup, ketchup because of it - we mostly call it tomato sauce, or even red sauce!. Brown sauce on chips with lots of vinegar and salt is probably Britain's best contribution to world cuisine .

Depends where you are. Called it ketchup like mad as a kid in north wales, but much less common down south when I lived near London. Perhaps it's a northern thing (like drinking vinegar from the bottle)?

Quote: "Brown sauce on chips with lots of vinegar and salt is probably Britain's best contribution to world cuisine"
Don't even go there with me! I haven't had vinegar in years because my lodger is madly alergic to it (even the smell). I cry for my long lost fish and chips (well chicken and chips for me with a small carton of curry sauce). It's amazing how *much* better chips are from the chip shop than you get at home or even in a restaurant. I've heard they have special vinegar they don't allow non-chip shops to have. Damn, magic vinegar...

Heh, talking about northern types, my vinegar drinking friend told me about how in the north you can ask the chippie to scrape all the burnt up stuff in the bottom of the chip cooky thing and make that into a dinner. Honest. Is apparently lovely but probably only second to Scotland's deep fried mars bars when it comes to killing you off early. Can't remember what they call it, but according to my mate some places even have it on the menu.

Cheers

You mean all the bits of batter etc that fall off? - that's pretty disgusting!. I prefer my fish in breadcrumbs, batter is way too greasy. I've never had deep fried mars bar, and can't understand how people can eat that crud, mars bars are sickly enough as it is, but covered in greasy batter, bleh! - maybe if they had it in breadcrumbs I'd prefer it . I usually get black pudding in batter though, or a steak pie supper mmmmmmmm.

Must be getting close to lunch time...

Normal breakfast,
Weekdays: Cereal with milk
Weekends: Toast or fry up

Favourite breakfast ever...well me and my brother, for a laugh, tried to make two Triple fried egg chilly chutney sandwiches (using the exact recipe from Red Dwarf) and they were unbelievable! and it's true, you need to eat them before the bread dissolves, my brother's one turned to mush in his hands...

Used to love Red Dwarf. I never tried the recipe, but in Uni used to use the same crazy mix idea and loved a triple decker sandwich with peanut butter, jam (jelly), bananas, ketchup, salad cream, and some tobasco if you have it around (or other such hot sauce). Is honestly amazing. Is like a taste party in your mouth but in an on your own kind of way Tastes just come in waves and it actually tastes great together. Honest.

If I could have whatever I wanted for breakfast I'd probably go for fresh high quality sushi. Sushi must have fresh fish or it won't taste good. I love sushi with tuna and squid. When I'm rich I'm gonna try otoro, the best part of the tuna (and twice the price) Man, how nice it would be to have a sushi breakfast made from the catch that morning.

Too right. Great British institution that stuff. Much like Indian restaurants Although apparently I was told once that the dishes (eg. Vindaloo) were made for Britain originally (based on what we like), so technically we get half a point for that one

Aaa Hash Browns. So very nice. Your breakfast is however missing some black pudding.... Or are you not a fan?

Never tried black pudding. Is it chocolate?

Quote: "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HP_sauce"

Hehe ok now I know what you're talking about--- I have that at home, but we call it BBQ sauce. Yes, I agree that it is *much* better than ketchup, but restaurants here do not offer it. They always have ketchup and vinegar for the fries in the restaurants here. Or mayo if you're into that (fries with mayo is actually quite good as my Dutch friends have shown me).

Nope. We have loads of BBQ sauce too (I have about 5 varieties in the fridge right now), and brown sauce ain't it. Just looks similar.

Quote: "Never tried black pudding. Is it chocolate?"
Hehe, Nope. It's blood. Totally blood. One big round blood clot basically. Fried up till it's black. Tastes a fair bit like haggis as it happens, but haggis is not so strong and these white bits in it. As it happens chocolate pudding is chocolate. Oh, and a proper full fry up really should have black pudding.

Quote: "Or mayo if you're into that"
Too european, but they have taken us over somewhat. Mayo with everything these days. Personally I'm a big fan of the great british salad cream. Can go with anything and the greatest sauce on earth. Much like heinz baked beans being the best easy food in the world. Ever.

And then some. But it literally is arteries. Or whats in them at least. Surprisingly nice until someone tells you what it is made of. Much like when you choke on your first hair in a packet of pork scratchings. Yuck...

Here is a typical full english fried breakfast:-

Black pudding is the black round thing in the middle. Nicer than it looks. Totally different taste to anything else. Bit rich for more than one or two slices though.

I'm sorry... this black pudding you speak of... Who the heck was the first person to try it?! Unless you are lying about what it is, that's really weird to me...

They call it blood sausage in the US, but it's probably not as nasty as you'd think - this might sound weird coming from a Scotsman, but haggis tastes like runny snot compared to black pud. You just have to disregard it's ingredients, much like a lot of British food .

A bit of the ol' Haggis, Neeps and Tatties... lovely (Not for breakfast though). Haggis is nice, but i still prefer black pudding.

Something I haven't fancied trying though is Tripe. Anyone here had a stab at it?

That just sounds sooo wrong in so many different ways. But I'm sure it tastes good

My wife once tricked me into trying baked pigs blood she bought from an Asian market. It tasted quite good until she told me what it was

If I have breakfast (Uni doesn't really give me much time between hangovers, being late for class, and having to get up so damn early), then the only thing I have is;

Fried ham (very thin sliced from the Deli);
Two Eggs - sunny side up, nice and runny;
Two bits of bread;
Sweet Chilli Sauce;

Smoosh all the yoke onto the bread and spread it around;
Dump the white onto one half of the bread;
dump a piece of fried ham on top;
Nice dose of Sweet Chilli Sauce;
Fold in half;
Enjoy.
Repeat.

Without fail, I have a cup of Green Tea with Honey and Milk, regardless of if I have time or not - The caffeine is my pick-me-up (only works sometimes), and I like the fact that it's good for me

Got the first 6 seasons on DVD - used to watch an episode every morning after a night out to get me over the grog (and the laughing always made me feel better )
