I must say that Higgins is tapping into a new market with this pack. Regardless of how many people buy it, there will always be innovative ways to use it.

Higgins, how about vertical mine shafts? Perhaps with wooden supports, a bit like the one in Half-Life 2, the one you drop down after running through the graveyard with the priest. That way we can get from level to level, very carefully!

Nickydude, thats a good idea. I think ill recreate the rooms and model a mine shaft, then model some beams you can place in different ways.

I got stuck texturing my mine cart, so I got out my "3D Game Textures" book by Luke Ahearn. So there is a set back until I feel I can texture my props just right. So far I have been downloading free textures and altering them so I can use them, but it hasn't worked out for my cart, so hence the reading of the book.

I'll start posting again when I have got somewhere with texturing.

Ok, I have something to show. I created a texture for the rails, using my uber photoshop skills (haha, I'm getting there). I think you will like the result:

just a small obsevation re: tracks. the rails usually sit on the wooden bearers. also make the wooden bearers slightly wider than the track.

I know the sleepers are meant to be under the rails and overlap them, I see plenty of them 3 times a week . I could go back and add more polys, which would mean I would have to remap the uv's and edit the sleepers so that the rails sat on top. But you will hardly notice it while your shooting away at baddies.

I need some crit on my cart texture, as I feel I need to redo it, because it looks kind of fake, compared to the rails :\

Try grunging the cart texture, if it's carrying coal it's bound to get dirty.

Higgins,

The models look great. As for the textures, all of the wood (tracks and cart) is too clean and new. I would rather a more dry, lighter texture like the beams in the caves. That's a great texture.

The wheels on the cart could use a little more rust and dirt, except of course where they meet the rails. Right now, there is no distintion there.

Best.

I'm sorry, my answers are limited. You must ask the right question.

Just like what Nickydude said, I was thinkin the fake look of the cart had to do with the coal/whatever it is carrying. Sorta scatter or whatever the contents of the cart and give the sides some scratches or somin.

Otherwise the pack is AMAZING!!! If I could, I would buy it, but sadly I am contained to freebies.

The lighter suggestion on the wood is a good one, as well as grunging them up. You dont see too many clean minecarts. even a light cloud texture over it could help give it a dusty feel.

will this be picking up.
Also a note, its better to release smaller packs and get it out the door, and then adding new versions later, rather than waiting to do one big massive pack.

The segments look great Higgins. The textures are very proportional, which is often a problem I see with a lot of released user packs. Any attempt made at removing the 100x100 look of most segments is a welcome addition.

I didn't know I had 9 replies, as I have not checked my threads at all. I've been feeling really bored and unproductive lately and I don't know why.

Maybes its because I want a new hard drive to start fresh again, or some thing else at the back of my mind. But I will finish this pack.

@Butters

What do you mean, you gave crit? I haven't had an email from you or any thing posted in this thread. Let me know what you mean.

@Locrian

The only texture I'm happy with is the train tack, the cart just looks tacty. I still have to test the segments to try and fix the collision bug, but I think I know how anyway.
