I don't know if this is a good idea, but I had something I thought of as to how to keep track of the time passed. Hobgoblin could set a time that would pass per day depending on what the situation was. So for example, by 12:00AM tomorrow, he could say 1 hour will pass in game. In a firefight or battle, it could be 1 minute. Like I said, it depends on the situation, but this way we could keep track of how long everything is. He could also choose to skip time, say when we are just walking or driving, he could jump a few hours ahead, then just set the time to pass in the day after that.

Sounds clever. I'm in for that. In my story, it's still daylight. How about we say nów is 3:00PM?

Sure. 9AM. That would mean the sun is rising in front of Walter. That could be a disadvantage in a dogfight... we'll see...

Why doesn't any of you think about protection against radiation? You're moving into heavily polluted territory...

I think Hobgoblin Lord reads what people want for their little fieldtrip and he goes "sigh", "this won't work until people try to make it seem realistic. They might aswell bring nukes and hippies."

This looks like a fun game, if you can get it organized. I don't know if I'll join though, I'd rather not have another distraction from my programming.

Walter was staring at the radar in his fighter jet in utter disbelief. Fourteen small blips were dancing around in the top of the little display, fourteen bogeys, possible hostiles. He reached for the adjustment buttons and slowly rotated it, hoping it would be an adjustment error. After a few seconds, he gave up. Those fighters were really there. Why so many?

Time was running out. Walter wasn't really sure what kind of radar the bogeys had, but what was certain was that even the lowest quality of radars would pick him up within a minute from that distance. Should he turn away? He checked his weapon loadout. Twelve missiles, enough for a quick surprise hit, but even in the best scenario he'd end up outnumbered two-to-one.

Walter noticed he was trying to contact HQ, to find out if there was any alternate solutions to his problem. His jet started to describe a sharp left turn. The damn thing is off he suddenly realized. He had just shutdown the connection to avoid radar detection.

A slight movement on his radar suddenly took his breath away. Three of the blips had been closing in on his location, rapidly. Time was running out.

By waiting too long, I died of boredom
lol

Well, Hobgob is the only guy we really need. Where is he?

Oh, and I suppose I'll join, if no one minds.

I request:
A backpack with some food and water
A tactical sniper rifle
About 15-20 extra rounds for the sniper
A pistol
Some extra rounds for that
A knife
A radio
3 Smoke Grenades and 3 Frag Grenades

Edit: That's assuming I get the helmet, sunglasses, boots, and bulletproof vest by default.
Edit Again: Looking back, I see that we will need to cross a river. Therefore, I think that 30 meters of rope will be useful.

I like Gil's idea of game time, but I don't thinks its working too well. None of the participants are active enough.

Edit: Actually this adds onto Gil's idea. Silly me

Instead I think it would be better to do this: Hobgoblin Lord gives us the mission. Then all players get, say, 12 hours to order their equipment. Once the twelve hours are up, we move on. The people who didn't get to respond can join back in later.

After those twelve hours, we set out. Hobgob gives us an event. We get 12 hours to talk with each other and respond to the event. At the end of twelve hours, we move on using the course of action decided upon. Then repeat

It may move a little slowly, but at least it will be moving

There was no escaping now. Walter pushed his fighter to the extremes as he tried to avoid the incoming rain of bullets. He had turned on his radar, but found it jammed immediately. Within seconds, the hostile fighters had picked up on the signal and taken a frontal course towards Walter.

He cursed, and threw his jet into another sharp right. The forces pushed him back in his chair and his breathing was faster than ever. After pulling back into a straight course, Walter suddenly found one of the enemy fighters in his crosshair. Without hesitation, he opened fire.

The bullets tore through the wing as a knife cuts through butter. Within a split second, a burst of fire erupted from the severed wing and the fighter started to bank sidewards, straight through the spray of bullets. The fuel tank exploded as a bullet ignited the gasses in it - nothing but a ball of fire was left.

Walter didn't wait for another fighter to try the same trick on him, but he was heavily outnumbered. He had one chance left, an absurd chance, but he had to try. Without checking his orientation or course, he pressed the afterburner. There had to be some spot to pull of this insanity.

Before he really had time to think it over or check his course, Walter had to start describing random patterns to avoid the rain of bullets being fired after him. He would have a single chance.

Well I would like to add a character as well, if it is also not to late.

Name:
John Lugen

Occupation:
Computer Technical Support

Age
34

Location
U.S.

History:
Makes a hell of a cup of coffee
Started in medical school then gave up because it was too challenging
Never used a fire arm
Has a family with 1 kid

Story:
While John was sitting in his car, under a bridge, waiting for traffic to move forward. Thinking of his wasted life and how he should of stayed and got his degree in medicine. He turned up his radio for some music to ease the pain of his daily life. When he turned it on all he could hear was the radio host going insane. After finally the man calmed down he said with a weak and terrified voice that DC was just hit by a nuke. John sat there trying to believe that the man was just pulling a joke, so he changed channels. And on all of the radio stations were speaking of the same thing. Sitting in Terror, he heard a huge explosion from afar. And all the sounds of the honking and yelling stopped. Everyone in their car was looking at this cloud. Finally the driver to the left of John released what it was. He got out of his car and started running. Other people caught on as well and ran away as well. John sat in the car not realising what was going on because he was still in shock of the what happened to dc. And a huge rush wave came smashing through the highway. AS it tore cars into pieces all John was thinking of was of his child. Then he blacked out. He woke up thinking that he is dead. He lay where he was for about an hour not being able to move a muscle. When finally he saw a shadow above him. The shadow pulled the debris off of John form the bride which had protected him for being vaporised. After being helped up by the man John realised who it was. The man who was to the left of him. After regaining his sense back he asked the man how he survived. The man said that he had went into the storage room in the bridge which protected him from being killed. After resting for a few hours the 2 men speaking of their families and what they use to do as a job, they decided that they should search for their families. They separated since they both lived in two different cities. John was walking along the trashed highway seeing dead bodies everywhere, he saw a gun, an Uzi, as he was looking at the gun, he never had shot a gun before and did not now what to do with it. Thinking that there was no clip in it or that safety was on. He pulled the trigger. And the gun went wailing. When he finally let go of the trigger a bullet ricocheted off the pavement and went through his left pinkie.

Hmm, I didn't make a background for my character, did I?

Brian MacIntosh (because I'm too uncreative to think of something original)

Occupation: Engineer from Massachusetts

Background:
Served in the Iraq war for 2 years, so he has knowledge of military.
Enjoys programming and doing anything with computers.
Was a work when the bombs went off. A day later he was recruited to the movement near China because of his military background.
Family - wife and two children, all killed in the bombings. Seeks vengeance.

Can I join in?

Character: SSgt. Arnold Page, British Infantry

Arnold grew up in the rough streets of east London. He was bright as a boy but poorly educated, by the age of 14 he was involved in street gangs and committed many petty crimes resulting in his imprisonment for 6 months in 2004 at just 17 years of age.
Arnold found that prison, far from being repressive, helped him to become a real man. He learnt skills and educated himself, and one week after his release in 2005 he signed up for the British Infantry.

Twelve years have passed since then and Arnold is now a Staff Sergeant in the British Infantry. He is respected among his peers and sub-ordinates alike, for although he isn't an academic he more than makes up for this with his great awareness and intuition.

But behind his successful reform, there still exists a rogue; a man out for his own gain, who would sacrifice the lives of twenty men to preserve his own.
Which side of Arnold Page will be brought out by this terrible war?

[June 15th 2016]
Due to increasing tension between the US and China, SSgt Arnold Page and C200 other soldiers have been transferred to the British/US camp patrolling the southern border of China.
[September 26th 2017]
A Chinese attack on the camp leads to the live capture of 23 allied soldiers including Arnold Page.
[December 5th 2017]
After months of imprisonment and horrific torture many of the allied soldiers have died from starvation or failed escape attempts from the Chinese camp. Only the hardest characters have survived (chance for anyone to have their character start from here too ).
Noticing that the sewage pipe from the guards' quarters exits into a nearby river, the remaining men that can muster enough strength begin to dig under their barracks in hope of intersecting the pipe.
[December 18th 2017]
The pipe is finally breached and the men crawl through the stinking waste to freedom.
[December 22nd 2017]
After days of endless walking, the small band of men reach an opening, and beyond a small village can be seen.

Upon seeing the village, a slight glaze returned Arnold's eyes, a symbol of hope that had returned to a man who had thought he was done for. His cracked lips contorted in an effort to smile and he stumbled along as slowly as before while his mind was racing.
As he approached the village he heard the women shouting, signalling his arrival. Whether they were welcoming or hostile he didn't care, all he could think is that there would be food and a place to rest.
Arnold made his way across the rice fields in front of the village and just as he started to make out the details of the people, who were now gathered at the village entrance, he closed his eyes and fell to the ground with exhaustion.

The village is the place where you guys are, Arnold doesn't have anything except his dirty uniform.
I'll let you guys decide what happens to him next as he is unconscious

Walter's jet fighter roared through the skies, avoiding the gunfire behind him. Little drops of sweat dripped down his face and neck, and, absurdly, he'd swear he saw a little trace of condensation on the helmet visor. He had heard a loud clunk only a few seconds ago, and he knew the bullets were closing in on him. The first impact hadn't hit anything yet, but the next time, he might as well be less lucky.

The radar indicated five of the hostile fighters were chasing him, the other blips had disappeared. Walters mind was racing. Check the course, his mind flashed. Another quick look onto his instruments told him he was heading east, and that he had left Kazachstani airspace a few moments ago. China.

The Chinese land didn't look obviously different from the Kazachstani, although the mountains were disappearing behind him. He had minutes left, and he rolled the craft over in another evasive manoeuver. The first traces of a jungle appeared in the distance, as the last traces of the mountains faded away behind him.

Another of the chasing crafts slowed down slightly, and Walter watched the radar, expecting the craft to turn away. It had probably run out of fuel and was approaching the point of no return. He threw a quick look at his own crafts' fuel indicator - the afterburner had consumed much of the remaining fuel. There were minutes left. Then, suddenly, all systems started to warn him. The craft that was falling behind had indeed started to describe a return course, but he had left behind a little present. A single missile was heading for Walters craft.

Walter hoped the ECM would do the job as he engaged it, and he started to describe a switching pattern. As he was thought, he waited for the missile as long as he could and then suddenly reversed the direction of his banking. The missile shot by with a roar. Walter sighed in relief, but the relief would only last for a second. His evasive action had decreased his speed - there was a slight shudder in his craft as a bullet impacted on the right wing. Within seconds, Walters craft started to bank sidewards as the fighter flew over first jungle trees.

alright then, a few new players good time for them to join in as we are just getting going. for those that did not select equipment you are assigned a "standard bundle" which includes M-16, 5 clips, ALICE, 3 canteens, 10 MRE, 2 frag grenades, personal med kit (sulfur, bandages, medical scissors, medical tape, 4oz alcohol, cotton, and iodine), 4 chemical strips. Diggsey the computer is fine however be warned that you should use it sparingly as electricity is exceptionally rare and used for more important things like refrigiration and the medical building.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
10 am

The group prepared its gear for the mission, most kept it pretty light not wanting to hump a heavy load on the trip, some however might as well have strapped a kitchen sink on their back. Less than a click out of camp the wind picked up and began to drive small bits of debris into our eyes and other uncomfortable places. The terrain was tolerable for awhile, the old road was cluttered but not to bad. Overturned vehicles, stripped of anything that could be used litter the road, piles of garbage swirled in the wind, and the smell of rotting flesh from dead animals and people was present.

Another click down the road it has become overgrown and littered to a point where it is not really a road anymore. The bush around here is thick and concealing, your not sure if it is the wind but you certainly heard something off in the bush about 20 meters ahead.

James rushes in the bush. A few minutes later gun fire erupts, with his Colt .45 he quickly fires four shots at the two soldiers in the clearing. Both now lay dead, James quickly searches the bodies for town maps or anything else that could be helpful.

Looking at the bodies, Brad notices that there is no way these guys are alone... Scanning around, he sees nothing but prepares himself for any more enemies that might be present.

Then, he tells James to quickly give him any spare ammunition that was on the bodies so that we can restock our supply back at camp.

Jeff kneels in some thick brush off the side of the road, and quickly puts his ghillie suit on, camouflaging him with his surroundings. He scans the area with his M4A2 in hand, ready to fire, but sees no one.

Since this is the near future and they already have it, I say we are all linked by a "Com Link" type system, basically just walkie talkie's built into our helmets. If that's okay with everyone then...

"Stay low, we need to set up a defensive perimeter. 3 left side of the road, 3 right, best if you stay hidden. Five should scout ahead, I'll stay put," Jeff whispers in his headset to all members.

Not trying to be a commander or anything, just giving suggestions, you don't have to agree/follow them . Also, let's get a list of the characters, a quick description of abilities, and what their forum name is. I counted 11 characters, so used 11 in my suggestion. Also, Hobgoblin, we need a deadline for this event

(Not everyone has a helmet, but everyone could have a radio.) "I'll scout ahead." James walks into the clearing where he killed the soldiers. "Don't see anything.", said James. James flips the lid on his rifle scope. He looked though it and moved ahead. Then he saw a full supply truck with NATO markings on it. "Hey! Guys, look over here.", yelled James. Waiting for the others to come, he started to unload the supplies. He wondered where the NATO escorts were, and why there weren't any bodies.

Brian moves up and covers James as he unloads the truck. "Why don't we just carjack the truck? It could come in handy," Brian says. "But let's check for booby traps first. Be careful!"

I'll make a list here and add to it as people list themselves.

Helmet is a standard issued item though, like with your uniform . Fine with me if you want a radio instead, as long as everyone can communicate .

And you may want to wait a bit longer to let other people respond and react to one situation rather than continuing on yourself . Also, you may want to let Hobgoblin decide the main events in the story and just react to them, as it makes it easier to keep up with and more uniform that way .

Jeff stayed put, and asked through the comlink, "What is it?"

Ok, but the thing is that Hobgoblin is only one person and he can't be on 24-7. But we'll try not to get too far ahead.
Edit: And you can take the Duh off my job description

"We've found a supply truck about 100 yards ahead. Has NATO markings, but there's no evidence of guards or escorts. I'm covering it now."
