Quote: "It seems that it's American Hollywood actors playing in a British role as a bunch of Scandinavians...it's a bit odd..."
Isn't the lead played by Sean Bean, who is a born'n'bred yorkshireman.. or some dark and unheard of northern county.
Dunno about the whole Beowulf movie, tbh I didn't know about any poem and just remember it as a comic book series by AD2000 or Marvel... probably AD2000 cause I rarely read Marvel as a kid.
That said hollywood didn't exactly do Judge Dred much justice, Tank Girl was good mind.. in a B-Movie kinda way.
Still the trailers didn't really endeer me to want to watch it.
300 looked good, but after a few minutes of fairly poor acting and all the Spartens walking around armoured to the teeth yet with no shirts of pants on and more importantly no WOMEN in the same gear. Yeah, kinda seemed more like one of those overly-testerone films that will probably become some sorta gay-icon film like the Transporter.
And what was with everyone in that movie, it was like they were perminantly deaf... shouting for almost half the bloody thing. Kept shouting "dude, your on 5.1 not in the next sodding county!" but unfortunately movies haven't really evolved far enough for the actors to notice and lower their voices so had to keep flipping the volume up and down or be deafened every so often.
I mean it's cool these movies and all, but tbh only once in a while do directors get them right.
Think the last movie along these lines I liked was Troy, the acting was a little disappointing but the story and fight scenes actually made sense despite knowing what was going to happen mind hehe
Was truely a cool film, the rest though seem to want to focus on as much CGI and action as possible leaving out that ya know what there is a story they're suppose to be doing.
If Hollywood seriously are this low on ideas though they should come to me. I've got a million and one ideas that don't involve scanilty clad blokes hitting each other (although if it was women it'd work..) or ya know another god aweful comedy set in the dead-end job industries.
Seriously, when are they gonna start doing original comedy films again?! Or hell, decent spoof films.
Scary Movie is crap... all of those sorta films were, you know who were good at spoofs? Mel Brooks and the National Lampoon boys, on the brit side of the pond we had the Carry-On and Confessions Of ... series.
In-fact apart from the last one, Simon Pegg has been doing bloody well at making some good spoofs. Sean of the Dead and The Fuzz were awesome, his last one was like the typical comedy film coming out of america now. Totally bloody disappointment.
Think what he should do next is like an Indiana Jones send up, that'd be cool. I dunno maybe the audiences have kinda taken evolutionary steps backward with these things.
On the plus side AVP2 is going to be released soon which judging by the trailer is going to be slightly gorey. It truely does look back on form with the earlier Aliens and Predator movies rather than this wishy washy "Humans win because they're soooo cool" thing.
Face facts directors, killing off all of the humans to have a single obvious survivor isn't cool. It isn't suspenseful in any way and the horror in AVP was just not there past the deaths and even then they were so limited that frankly they could've choped it a little more not really changed it enough to change what people thing and have it as a PG-12.
Then again maybe I'm getting desensitised to these things, but personally the Aliens have always scared the poop out of me; something about giant 8ft bugs that are out to kill anything just gets under my skin and totally freaked. When I can watch an Alien movie and not feel terrified as those who are experiencing it, there's something damn wrong.
Hell I actually started to feel sorry for the poor alien that had it's tail chopped off then almost sliced up.. I was rooting for the bastard! That should NEVER happen!!
