Here are a 8600gt £68 card vs a 8800 gts £308 card.

Both machines running at 1024 x 768 with default settings.

This was just for fun.

Many thanks to Strelok for helping with test.

I think the 8600gt for the price is doing pretty well, yes its overclocked a lot but for £68 card it runs very well.

I hope this helps people who don't have a high budget that you can use x10 with good performance on a budget.

I thought less was better...but I was going on the assumption of "less memory" used, and applied that to all. Maybe that could be clarified guys.

I'm not sure I really like any of you...I'm still trying to upgrade my pc to last gen specs.I add a gig of RAM now it wants another one...my graphics card is so old it went to school with my dad and i don't have any idea what the blazes overclocking means but I know in my nice cold apartment my pc sure isn't overheating.
One of these days I'll have my pc ready for x10...probably when FPSC x11 comes out.
Did I mention I was jealous of your systems? My pc hides in shame...
I will probably get an 8600 with some decent RAM (has to beat the 64 MB the card I have now has) unless the price of the 8800 drops dramatically. If the price difference is reasonable I'm getting the 8800.
Then I have to figure out how to cool the thing off.I have to be careful taking off the housing to the tower. My wife is a really nice woman but around electronics...bad things happen. She'd get electrocuted, stick her finger in the fan, decide to hang a magnet on my tower (after which she better move to a foreign country so it will take me longer to find her),start a fire or some other crazy thing.
I am telling you I miss the old days sometimes...where you just plugged the stuff into the TV and wall and went.

Please have mercy and use the search function.

That's why I love my iMac. No discussion over cards and configurations! However, I do recognize that it's still a PC world.

I used to build my own PCs and then those darn SATA drives came out and screwed me all up. Sometimes drivers are a real pain in Windows.

BTW,
I hope you weren't plugging your PC into the TV?
