Why do people keep saying this... Are you playing it on easy or something? It might be short because it's too easy and you are just running through the game. Play it on Veteran or the hardest difficulty. Took me at least 10 hours to play through the game in total.

anyone know how to properly patch cod4?
I dl'd the 1.4 patch from activision (30 megs) and when I run it it says it cant find a valid install...pfft. I tried putting the patch in the game dir (which is not the default dir it tried to install to, I used D:\Activision\... instead of C:\Program Files\...)

anyone know whats up?

web info talks about reg settings, I checked, they are all correct.

Just finished playing through it for the second time today. Deffo gonna be going for a third before too long.

At first I hated the re-spawning enemies. I like chucking grenades like billy-o to clear rooms and that doesn't work so well in certain places in this game, although it does at times unless the sneaky spods chuck 'em right back at ya.

Once I'd gotten the hang of the new style of game it's easy enough to come up with new styles of play. Blasting peeps in the face with the shotgun for example, ooh that's a fave technique at the moment.

The only thing more satisfying is when an enemy tries standing up again after being shot and you have just enough time to stick your knife in them as they're staggering about. Good times.

Yeh it's short but surely you agree that a great, short game is a lot better than a long, turd game

EDIT:: I would quite like the chance to choose what weapons to start the levels with, if only so I could exchange the pistol for a shotgun.

Maybe with recommendations so you didn't go into a fight with something stupidly inappropriate (unless you wanted to). I've gotta admit though, quickly switching to the pistol instead of waiting for a reload is a technique I never really used much until I played this.

Blammo in your face!!

Good but not as good as Crysis. I found the unlimited amount of grenades that the enemy have, no matter how many times you press "throw back" still kill you from over 20 feet away very tiresome. Also I have now a morbid hatred of dogs.

@Halo 3

I was severely disappointed as being a big Halo fan i was loooking forward to getting it, 2 days later i had completed it on Legendary.I mean

@ coffee grunt

you got that quote from Yahtzee/zero punctuation

i consider myself quite a big halo fan as well, it just sucks that bungie skewed over to satisfying the multiplayer fan-boys. i wanna save the world, not play with a bunch of retarded twelve year olds! bah.

LOL, that is really fun on multiplayer with a friend, there is a class you can choose which has a last stand ability, its hilarious when your friend is immobilised on the floor, clutching a pistol, and instead of finishing them off from far away, you humiliate them by charging at them with a knife

or last stand versus last stand where your both crippled 1 on 1

ah good times.

Just to add that I finished the game last night - and wow, what an awesome ending! The nuke countdown, the truck ride, the incredible shoot-out, and the cool after-credits epilogue bonus

So I stand by what started this thread, easily the most fun game I've played in years. Gotta try to get some more achievements now and give multi-player a whirl.

I really enjoyed the single player in COD4, but the multi-player is incredibly addicting. For those of you who don't know there's a ranking similar to Halo 3's except that you don't lose experience for losing and you don't need to win to rank up. You get certain amounts of experience for kills and assists (amount depends on the game type) and completing challenges. There's tons of challenges that range from getting certain amounts of kills and headshots with different guns to calling in X amount of airstrikes. You unlock guns and attachments as you rank up and can create 'classes' which allow you to customize your primary and secondary weapons as well as adjust 'perks' which are small boosters such as carrying around some C4 or getting a faster rate of fire. The multi-player is very in depth and one of the most fun experiences I've ever had in a game, DEFINITELY recommend.

I'm still in the single player game. quite good game so far, looks wicked, sounds wicked, and the battles are outright chaos at some points, but thats a good thing. The gunship level was crazy. I'm a level or two past that. I only play a couple hours on saturday nights so it might take a while to finish. I'm still addicted to TF2 at the moment, so that consumes most of the saturday night gaming time

Is there a way to choose which maps you want to do or to limit which ones you don't want to play on multiplayer? It's fun, but some of the maps I don't like, and it seems to be random where you are placed.

The only thing I don't like about multiplayer is the outright unbalanced game play when you first start out, but after a day or so it gets better. An example would be when you are matched with people who are level 30+ and your only level 10, seeing as the only people I have ever been matched with are level 30+ Im doing pretty well. Oh and also the fact that either you get spawned right in front of an enemy you they spawn right behind you. Seriously I hate it when games spawn you even close to an enemy so its a spawn death. I mean really I am always a sniper, I went into a heavily fortified building (C4, RPG's points at the only entrance, claymore mines at the ONLY entrance) there was no ladder, suddenly an enemy spawns, kills everyone in the building and I was like...How the hell did he get in! ...well he spawned in there...for some god awful reason.

True. The servers are also very unstable, they have crashed on my last ten games. Seriously, Microsoft is taking their sweet time upgrading their service. Imagine if a banks servers kept crashing due to usage. In two hours they would be fixed, probably in less time than that.

Yeah, the CoD4 servers keep kicking me from the lobby or saying the host left, it's a bit annoying spending 10 minutes trying to actually get playing, but fun when it works. Is there anyway to choose what maps to play?

Same here, I can't tell if it's the servers or the game or LIVE

It seems to work worst when trying to play with a friend. See I was trying to play a team deathmatch game and the stupid game put us in tow completely different games!

Xbox Live has experienced issues for the first time in 5 years lately. Microsoft is working on the fix and is giving everyone a free XBLA game in return. Apparently way more people purchased a 360 over the holidays than they predicted.

It should not take them a month+ to fix it however.

It hasn't been a month. It's been a week or so. Don't you read the game news sites?

If the problem has persisted for you for a month, then I would blame the COD game itself and not Live. Or I'd blame your net connection.

Sorry for the double but I just played the craziest game ever!

It was six people, two of my friends and the other three were just people from live. It was on the level shipment (like 100 Sq. feet) with the game mode headquarters haha! It took us five minuets until we scored, and another 10 to finally win by timeout. We had 40 points and the enemy had 0. I had like 84 kills and 54 deaths, it was insane, every time someone would try to take the headquarters there would be a volley of grenades and RPGs! In the last five minuets there were two helicopters called in and five air strikes haha. Anyways, it was awesome.
