Upon odering X10 I knew I couldn't have full effects because of my system specs...

Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel Core 2 Duo 1.80GHZ
Nvidia Gefore 8600 GT 256mb
2GB Ram

When I got it I ran 2 tests that ran pretty well, simple tests with only a few characters, then let my brother have a go, with absoultley loads of lag! Later he gave up and I had another go at making a level, I had fog, bloom and water effects and no lag, there were 7 enemies in total and the level was very small, two only appeared later, it ran fine and I was very happy with it. Once I had finished with It I built it in 2 minutes (with lightmaps best for performance) So I was very happy with it.

Later I experimented with a level, making aliens only pop out when you got near, it looked great and solved all my charater lag problems, so will be a very useful trick in the future. I can hardly use any effects, I turn dynamic shadow on (shadow strengh ect.) and kaboom! my game is dead with lag. Same with water reflaction and refraction (can still have water). Overall I'm very pleased with it considering my specs, I still can't figure out how to use the ragdoll physics, can someone tell me?

This is worth buying, the graphics look great even on my specs. Hope some people find this useful when thinking about buying.

I think dynamic shadows it the number one frame-rate killer. Even on an 8800, even 1 shadow enabled gives a pretty hard framerate hit.

I usually just leave it off, since the visual difference is minimal compared to all the other effects going on.

Thanks, my dad got a new computer so I wanted to FPSC X10, we did not get a new computer just because of X10, we got a great deal on our computer though it was like £500! If you have enough money I would definatley reccomend getting a 8800 instead of 8600 or if you get 8600 get 512mb.

Your right, it isn't really visible compared to some of the other effects so I don't really mind.

Thanks to both of you for replying so fast.

It will run well, better than mine though I wouldn't be suprised if the 50 enimies in one room would lag you quite a lot, don't even bother with dynaimc shadow but I'm not sure about how the reflaction and refration will go on your game, it murders mine. But if you are absoultley sure I think it will be worth getting. What is your processer? It reccomends dual core with at lease 2.00GHz, mind you I have 1.80GHz and it runs ok, make sure you have a decent proccesor and Vista then make up your mind to get it or not.

@ Shadow Blade. the only reason you get lags, is because of your graphics card. TGC recommended on the site you bought it from that you should have no less than 320mb (8800GTS i think), and you're trying it on 256mb.....you really should get a higher mb video card if you are wanting shadows and that stuff....and believe it or not, you can get some pretty good gfx cards for under $170 at newegg.com

AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+ w/ HT Technology 1000MHz FSB w/ 512KB Cache, 2GB DDR PC-3200 - 2x1024, ATI RADEON™ X1900XTX 512MB

I can probably get shadow on normal objects the same way you can do it on FPSC X9, I'm not that bothered about the shadows, I know my graphics card isn't all that great. I can't get a new graphics card because it's not my computer its the family one and I don't have that kind of money. I am still pretty happy with X10 and don't mind not being able to have massive levels or fancy water effects, I can use little tricks like spawning characters before you open the door to avoid lag, I'll also make samller and more levels, I not that bothered about my low spec. BTW on the box it says that 256mb is the min. But thanks for trying to help.

well, ur specs arent really,..,LOW spec, i'd say they are medium or a little above medium for the most part, except fpsc x10. but no one has AMAZING specs for x10 i dont think. but search the forums for the rag down turn on.

Download the ragdoll patch from your FPSC online order history, double click to install the required .dll.

we aren't really sure if x10 works with SLI mode, b/c we dont know if it was made to function with it...but it will probably be available as a patch or something in the near future.... but yea, you will run on high settings no worries

8600 is fine, if you like to drop all nice looking effects. If you want all the effects you definitly need an 8800.

I was wondering, since this is a review. Could you clear one thing up for me. This question may be a dumb one to ask, but, I'll ask anyway. Will scripts written for FPSC work on FPSCX10? I'm new and want to know this before I buy. Thank you in advance.

Well, I'm going to have about the same specs except my 8600 will be 512MB and my processor is 2.0Ghz dual core. Oh and I'm getting basic. Hopefully I can have dynamic shadows and rag-doll as the rest isn't as necessary IMO. Well Reflection and bloom are cool too. And maybe... whoops thats most of them

don't even bother with shadows, bond 1 says it lags on his 8800, water reratction work ok on mine, but if I have a full level then they just lag it to death.

Well I think Refraction is a useless effect so I'm leaving it off. It's sad because dynamic shadows are a big seller to me I hate X9's lame shadow decal.

Um, yes it can. They are not "true" shadows like X10's, and are not soft stencil, but they do work.

Um, holy crap! Glitchy and unfinished, but still cool. Not true dynamic shadows as characters and weapons don't seem to have proper effects but oh well. I'll try it out today. All I need now is for Lemur to get GPU instancing added and I'm set for life (FPSC wise). You should make a post about this in FPSC Chat.

Sorry to be misleading, it can't play COD4 with all effects on but it's still pretty darn amazing, you don't really notice the effect, your too busy filling people with lead. (loads of fun).
