Yes, and the Assassins Creed costume Altaïr wears is a confirmed extra 'costume' in the game, unlockable by doing something that is defined as 'really special'.

The Metal Gear Solid series is definitely worth the money. There's this balance between real and fiction that's really hard to find in the games. Metal Gear Solid 2 was the most disappointing one, but definitely worthwhile as well. I think the first to games are available on PC, MGS1 is available on PC, PSX and GameCube, MGS2 on PC and PS2, MGS3 on PS2 and MGS4 will be PS3 'exclusive'. I really hope the last two installments will be ported to PC as well, even if they're as horrible ports as MGS2 were.

I don't think MGS4 is an exclusive, just that it will be out first on the ps3, there was an article on a magazine where they stated that they were able to create real time cinematics for the mgs4 game with insane graphical quality but the 360 et al required a pre-rendered approach. hmmmmmmm.... O.o

MGS4 is on my list anyway, gta4 is so far the ONLY game we like on the ps3 and I really wanna get into the MGS games again

Its telling me that he's dreaming of the shadow moses section, so you may play through certain dream parts of the game as some of the levels from previous MGS games.

I played all the Metal Gear Series up until Metal Gear Solid 2. I never really got interested in anything they could offer me after that

EDIT: or maybe he's comparing the new one to MGS as a way of saying this is really the game he wants to make.

Well, he's not dreaming if you ask me, because Shadow Moses is completely deserted. I noticed the guard lights were off and the whole place is covered in snow. Also, the Snake vs Liquid Ocelot scene with the Rex and Ray seems to be on Shadow Moses.

^^^ That's the movie where the end of the one Rami posted is from, which I still believe is a fake. Or rather I think it is a movie made from various clips. The Shadow Moses scene might be from some April fool's joke. Probably the Assassin's Solid movie is also an April fool's joke.

However, the Assassin's Solid movie shows some really impressive ingame graphics as well what looks like actual gameplay (without a HUD).

Assassins solid was make on April Fools. But it was all in good fun with Jade Raymond and Hideo Kojima. Because they were both in it.

Altair's costume from Assassin's Creed is an easter egg that will be found in MGS4 and usuable, like the April Fool's video. (Which was actually the opening level to MGS4.)

The scene of Shadow Moses in which there is a young Snake is either a demo to show off the level for the promotional video, or a dream segment like what was done in MGS3.

But you will also be revisiting Shadow Moses as Old Snake in MGS4... Because its obvious.

Yeah, we will go there. Shadow Moses looks deserted in the trailer. It will be awesome if we'd get to see the glaciers, and the Comm towers. And the Blast Furnace!

I hope they're not too damaged, they got the hell bombed out of them before the bombers were called back - and luckily the nuke didn't drop yet, lol.

Here it is, Metal Gear Solid 4. Now, a lot of things fall into place:

1. There is no 90-minute cutscene, and the remarks were exaggerated. Some cutscenes are extremely long, of which a few might feel like 90-minutes to not-fans.
2. Players can pause cutscenes, so that they can go grab additional drinks or chips.
3. The review restrictions were in place to prevent spoilers. The installation time restriction was to prevent spoilers about something that happens DURING install. The cutscene restriction was for obvious reasons.
4. EGM has reviewed the game and given it an A-.

Sounds like a good sign to me!

Can you skip cutscenes? They are extremly long, I havent tried skipping them yet because Im still on the first run through.

And the review restrictions are no excuse, HOW the HELL are installation times in any way related to the plot? They didn't say "NO SPOILERS" which would have been a perfectly acceptable demand, they said you cant review it if you point out the negative aspects of cutscenes and installations which is pure crap

Well, no, they didn't say that. They said you cannot preview them at all. Even if magazines would've been profoundly positive about them they would not have been allowed to describe them. In any case, censorship is bad, but I guess a lot is riding on MGS4.

In all MGS games up till now it was able to skip cutscenes, so yes, I guess you can. Haven't tried it myself .

I don't think I will buy this nor a PS3. MGS games I didn't like them, as I thought cool a great stealth, then came all the weird random stuff, people with robotic arms, a mans head on a robotic female body. When I played the first one for the first time, I was like wow. Then when they kept making sequels and remakes MGS lost its touch. I think I lost intrest in the series after MGS 3:Snake Eater. Its kinda a love or hate franchise, like most.(I'm not even looking forward to GOW 2, as I think the first one was great and wasn't that continuable.)

Ok I see why they didn't want any reviewer to complain about install times now, its irritating, it overwrites what it installs every time you switch to a new chapter, meaning if you want to play it again, you have to wait for it to install AGAIN! Bloody annoying. It probably would have put many people off the game. There are NO spoilers related to the loading times or length of cinematics

However its still a brilliant game and I would recommend it to anyone, but I wouldn't lie about its problems like konami tried to blackmail its reviewers into doing, I guess they didnt want to install 20gb worth of stuff on our crappy 40gb PS3s

I read the EGM review, and they said the second half of the game is a large portion of cutscenes. My thoughts are they are tying up the story and they can only do that with, well, cutscenes.

It was quite amazing to see how fast that comment about '90 minute cutscenes' spread. It appeared on one site by someone saying they had been told by someone else that an anonymous source had said it. Another case of Internet Chinese Whispers at its best.

Anyway, I don't think you should thing of the initial 8 minute install time as a problem. The game has an 8 minute cutscene introduction - it just happens to be installing in the background at the same time The glass is half full.

This isn't as bad you make out. Acts 2 and 3 only take 3 minutes each, act 4 takes 2 minutes and act 5 takes 1 minute to install. I guess people have to find something to moan about - I just wonder why?

If that takes 16 minutes in total for the full game, I'm not bothered. Rather have it install and be a good game, like it is.

I have an 80 gig PS3 with Dualshock and MGS4 on pre-order... but there's a problem . I don't get paid until July (don't ask, long story), so my girlfriend will have to front me the cash. The check she gets tomorrow is spoken for (bills and such), and she doesn't get paid again until the 27th. The problem... the pre-order expires on 6/26, and she gets paid on 6/27. Want to hear the genuine rubbish part? Toys R Us won't hold it one extra day. Stupid!!! So I can either borrow $500 from someone, or get a 60 gig without dualshock or MGS4, which equates to the same amount of money spent on less stuff . So yeah, I'm annoyed by that. Sorry, not trying to hijack lol, just had to vent haha. When/ if I get my pre-order sorted I'll let you know how MGS4 is, unless you'd rather I didn't say anything lol.

I agree with Jeku... talk about the world's axis switching haha. The one thing that bothers me about the PS3 is that you shouldn't have to install a console game. One of the major arguements against PC games for console fans is that you don't have to install games, patches, or any of that. I loved that console games never needed patches... I've always wondered how many PC game patches exist because developers honestly missed an issue, and how many exist because developers skipped bugs for dealing with later to meet crunch deadlines . Anyway, that bugs me. Not that I'm ditching my Playstation allegiance lol. True fans can admit the faults of what they care about... else they're just liking something because it's popular, hehe. Maybe not applicable in this case though lol.

7mins for acts 2 and 3, act 4 was 5mins and 5 was about 2mins. At least i'm not pretending to ignore obvious flaws with the game. I prefer not to be bothered with installations while playing a game, especially when you start again, you have to go through the installations again. If you don't see that as an obvious flaw then there is something wrong here...

I honestly don't see why people are so against consoles having installs. Okay, the size of the installs are a little over the top and limited storage space could be a problem. Perhaps they should let you install to external USB drives if you want to, although they do let you copy your movies, music and photos to external storage to free up space if you need to.
One question to bear in mind... Were you against it when consoles switched from instantly loading cartridges to long loading optical media? The benefits outweighed the pitfalls and I am sure you got used to it. In that case it meant cheaper production with lots more storage space. In this case it means faster loading and makes it easier to patch, update and add extras to games. I never saw a rule anywhere which said consoles cannot have installs so I see it as a natural progression.

I'm damn glad consoles can be patched nowadays. I already had 2 XBOX360 patches and without patching, GTA4 might've had a lot of problems.

I'm 100% fine with console patching, but installing is almost defeating the purpose of console gaming. The one thing I always liked about consoles was instant enjoyment, no installing or waiting for a pc to boot up.

Consoles are losing their 'advantages' over PC gaming slowly but surely as they all basically become full fledged computers.

Will there be a PC version? It'd seem to be annoying to have it PS3 exclusive, though the 60min FMV(s) sound off putting, but less so on a PC but the first MGS was really good, not played any since and I hope they've kept it good through the years.

And Konami do not own the assassins creed IP, so altair is not snake

The exact reason I quit playing the Final Fantasy series. That, and Blitz Ball . I'm a huge story nerd, so long FMV's don't bother me, but when you can't pause them? That's obnoxious. Studios should include shuttling options for FMV's... fast-forward, pause, rewind, stop (to end), etc. I can't think of any games that've had that option, and it seems like such a simple one :/

Metal Gear Solid 4 has it, for the third time (yes, I already confirmed that before Jeku asked).

Sepp, there have been PC installments of MGS1 and MGS2. MGS3 is currently PS2 exclusive. I suspect MGS4 will be PS3 exclusive.

The general consensus is that MGS2 was a crime against all things holy. I think this boils down to the fact that Snake is no longer the main character, and instead we get an irritating adolescent.

I feel certain that, if only they'd found a better voice-actor for Raiden, the entire reception to MGS2 might have been different...

I'm not sure about console installs. I always liked the simplicity of "saves go in memory card, games are in disk". It was reassuring compared to the worry of "are my drivers/is directX up to date/broken/clean/do I need a reboot/clean boot/should I play in a different compatibility mode/administrator mode/with settings turned low/off/windows/vsync" etc. that is PC gaming (or, more specifically, PC MASS EFFECT gaming, I am SO MAD with the people that bug-tested that). With installs, you're shifting the console from a simple tool (in that all consoles of that type are identical, just as all flat-ended screwdrivers can use flat-ended screws) to the level of... well, as Agent Dink said, of computer. Installs made sense on the Wii for old games because there's nowhere to stick a SNES or N64 cartridge, but it's different when the hard drive and disc drive are working synchronously.

On the other hand, they mean faster load times and the possibility of patches and DLC so perhaps I'm being an old badger.

I'm not actually a Kiwi, I just randomly thought it up one day.

Well, the console advantage is still there: the hardware is the exact same thing on all consoles, so the installs don't matter. There's absolutely no reason to think installs will do anything besides take up disc space and take a little time.

I wouldn't trust Gamespot (not saying it doesn't deserve a 10--- I have yet to buy this game), but if you've noticed about 80% of their editors quit over the past few months. I canceled my subscription to Gamespot after the whole Gerstmann thing happened.

Wasn't most of them fired? They started reviewing really crappily.

For instance - Halo 3 gets a 9.5? Rubbish!
WAAAAY BACK WHEN
Tony Hawk 3 got a 10? RUBBISH! I have that game, not that great!
Perfect Dark gets a 9.(something)? Rubbish! Overrated!


However lately they just gave out 2 10's. Surprising, however very few have been given out in the past.

Just very impressive.

Lol. I loved perfect dark. However it didn't deserve the score they gave it. Besides, her personality was so low poly it could poke someone's eye out!

Perfect dark and Goldeneye 007 for the N64 were like...well, perfection. I cant think of any other games that instantly come to my mind when I hear the words FPS. Elvis rules.

You won't appreciate MGS4 as much as you would if you had played the others. But it does an okay job of explaining what happened in the past games.

Really, really, if you are really going to buy them, please then either get your hands on the PC versions through obscure methods or buy them before playing, because you'll really miss out on a lot if you've got no clue what you're playing. There are moments in the game that really had me doing 'wow!'
