Hi there!

Could this be classed as a game or just another rubbish post?

RULES:

A) The idea is to start off with a four-letter word and players add a new word either by

1) Changing one letter and retaining the order of the other letters
2) Changing one letter and rearranging the order of the other letters
3) Dropping one letter and retaining the order of the other letters
4) Dropping one letter and rearranging the order of the other letters
5) Adding one letter and retaining the order of the other letters
6) Adding one letter and rearranging the order of the other letters

but CAN ONLY USE ONE of these options in doing so

For example:

Start word = Kate (the Brambling finch ...... source http://dictionary.reference.com)
Next word = skate (option A5)
Next word = seat (option A4)
Next word = eat (option A3)
Next word = beat (option A5)
Next word = beast (option A5)
Next word = best (option A3)
Next word = set (option A4)
Next word = West (option A6)
Next word = East (option A1)
Next word = salt (option A2)
Next word = sat (option A3)
Next word = spat (option A5)
Next word = tapes (option A6)
Next word = gates (option A2)
Next word = gate (option A3)

B) ALL WORDS MUST BE OF THREE LETTERS, FOUR LETTERS, OR FIVE LETTERS

C) A player CANNOT play off of his/her own word

D) WORDS MUST BE IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

E) Words may be repeated (this is inevitable) ...... but should be avoided on the most recent page

F) Plurals accepted (e.g dads, shops)

G) Proper Nouns accepted (i.e. the names of individual people [but no surnames], places, titles, calendar times, etc. ...... For example Joe; Mary; Texas; Duke; March)

H) If you submit an unusual word please verify (e.g. Wadi = gully or streambed in northern Africa and the Middle East that remains dry except during rainy season ...... source http://dictionary.reference.com

I) Try to avoid slang ...... and DEFINITELY NO VULGARITIES

J) NO ACRONYMS (a word formed from the initial letters or groups of letters of words in a set phrase or series of words, as OPEC from Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, or loran from long-range navigation.)

K) ANAGRAMS (words, phrases, or sentences formed from another by rearranging its letters: “Angel” is an anagram of “glean.”) are inevitable ...... but should be avoided on the most recent page

L) ABBREVIATIONS [as distinct from acronyms] accepted ...... but only if it is so widely used that it has in essence become a term in its own right, such as exam (examination), auto (automobile). Do not use any that viewers will not immediately recognise.

M) Please keep it clean and tidy

N) Words submitted will be verified using http://dictionary.reference.com backed up by Chambers Words for Crosswords and Wordgames and I reserve the right to restart the game should any word not comply

Not a Rule but a request ...... PUT SPOILERS IN CODE TAGS PLEASE! ...... See rule M

@Nex
If thisd thread go's up into 20 pages high it will be hard to count the words and go back and forth page by page to find what has been said.so its harder if we had that rule.

Tops

this is fun, much better than those stupid post count games, lock that keep this!

We should keep score based on your added letter's value in scrabble:
1x value if you substituted and rearranged the letters
2x value for substitution
3x value for inserting a new letter

to keep the game going we could say you can use a "blank" tile to remove a letter earning 1x value of the letter.

It is far better to complete a 10 line program than to start a 10,000 line program.

Thanks but just want to keep it simple.

I have revised the rules to make it more clear what I intended ...... please read my first post which has been edited.

Lets use the word Hops in the second last post by LT Tatters to get going again.

@Gearce
no probs, i was thinking "people aren't gonna keep track of their points" anyway.
But hey i think i just invented solitaire scrabble.

I think we should add letters, the last person that could make a word wins that round.
up to you.

I think there should be a rule that your word must be different to the last two words, would stop duplication a bit without having to search the whole thread

this needs to be able to end somehow for it to be a proper game. The aim is basically to make a word that can't be followed on from. Pretty hard with 4 letters!
