This is one of my first games I've ever made. It's an adventure game where you need to get out of the reactor building. You are a scientist so you don't have guns or anything. Infact, there are no enemies. This is just a demonstration of my skills. I've paid attention to lighting and entities placement and to make the enviroment as realistic as possible. But it's still work in progress, so I've picked the best pictures to show you what I can do.

Here's pic one...

Finnish and proud of it!

Its a good idea, but I dont really see Chernobyl in that picture.
Try to find some refernce pics, or movies. There was a great documentary about the Disaster at Discovery Channel, maybe you can find it if you search on google video.

Quote: "Chernobyl - The Game"

wow...5 levels into production and i feel the need to cancel my game. its name was gonna be chernobyl, and it was gonna be set 20 years after the nuclear reactor broke due to the cooling system *Actually what happened*...sigh i knew if i didnt create a thread right when i started production someone was gonna beat me to it. Oh well, but yea i dont see chernobyl in that picture at all. Chernobyl is a diserted russian town built around a nuclear plant. well that was pripyat but still. . (i did LOTS of research on chernobyl for my game )

also in screen 2-3 (same screenshot) you have grass growing out of the dirt. but besides that, the moss/Grass in actual pripyat is radioactive. so if you do include grass like that in the levels, they need to lower the players health.

Quote: "http://youtube.com/watch?v=101OEaksU0s"

theres a video of 2 guys visiting pripyat, and you can see theyre CONSTANTLY checking the radiation levels...
remember chernobyls backdraft was 40times worse than hiroshima. its backdraft even effected the cost of the usa...

if you need any inspiration for chernobyl, i reccomend you play S.T.A.L.K.E.R:Shadow of Chernobyl. the game play is crappy imo, but it has lots of storyline to it and its all historicially correct.

Nope, didnt you research? Does Ucraine say something to you?
But at the time of the disaster, Ucraine belonged to the Soviet Union, wich now is Russia.

On-topic: I like the second screenie more than the first, but I dont know why there is grass growing inside the plant if it is still in order

Keep it up!

even though uKraine did techniqually have Pripyat/chernobyl most of the towns signs and the primary language of pripyat, was infact russian.

remember in soviet russia hell comes to you.

There are some file names within the STALKER directory that have IMP in them and stuff. There are some textures from HL2 and Doom 3 that appear to be copied into STALKER, but the developer insists that they are unique.

hmm ive not heard anything like that, and i even searched about stalker after i heard that, and found nothing. so i still think its a genuine game, and genuine material. ive yet to see any resemblence to half life or doom. besides some monsters which you can have drawn the inspiration from doom3. but besides that nothing. and i was just stating that stalker has good info about chernobyl in it.

I agree. I still like STALKER a lot... That's just what I read in Game Informer a little before release.

Yeah they claim that the water texture and some blood splatters were copied from HL2 and some sort of smoke texture/decal thing was copied from Doom 3.

I think the grass growing is ok, I mean grass can grow through tiny cracks in almost any surface. Just look at I am Legend. lol.

Thanks for comments!

I've played S.T.A.L.K.E.R too, but I find it a little too difficult for me. Great game though. I liked the graphics.

The 3-4 first levels take place to the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, and as soon you get out of there you walk through Pripyat. Its just that I'm not that far yet. Anyway, here's a new picture!

i thought it was too difficult following the beginning quests, so i just went off and killed the gate guards and just started a new quest i guess. :S i still havent beaten it, but it gets easier after you get your first automatic weapon.

Omg, this floating stairs awesome! I mean sure they have radiation but for the radiation to make floating stairs, there is no emoticon to described how awesome that is. Ok jokes aside, have you been playing too much COD4 recently?

No, they aren't copied they were bought from a website (don't remember which one, but it had gsc game world, ID software and Valve in their "clients" section)...

Thanks for the comments, but I think this project is temporarily over. My computer is now filler with viruses, worms(not real ones), and trojans. Maybe I will start this all over again someday. When my computer is fixed. But better luck on your own projects.

Wouldn't you instantly have died when the reactor blew?

Hope to see you ingame.

Hey where is the granny which pulled off the switch and the huge boom came?

Screenies look ok.

For clarification, the reactor didn't blow up, it breached and leaked radioactive substances into the atmosphere....

If it ha went into meltdown, Pripyat would be a burnt wasteland, and there would be nothing at all left to make a game of....

Are you sure? The article on wikipedia states otherwise. On the other hand, Wiki is known for not always being accurate with information...

The reactor did actually blew up.
The activity in the reactor went to high since they took away the "brakes" wich made its activity so high that they could controll it, they tried to put back the "brakes" but that just made the activity in the reactor even higher and then it exploded.

Dont you ever watch Discovery Channel?

I've gotten to that point too. I used to watch both the Discovery Channel and the History Channel alot, but their shows are just going downhill...why would I want to watch a show about truckers in Alaska?
