I've been hearing loads of rumours about this (for ages) and wondering... is it true?

Would you go see it?
Who do you reckon should play Chief/Jackson/Kortana?

Post your thoughts here.

As for me - I would go see it.
I reckon Chief should be Bruce Willis (Die Hard)
Dunno about the others...

Wow, what do you reckon the flood will be like...

I'm pretty sure this is true. I've read a lot about it, and I've watched interviews. The movie was delayed is all. Peter Jackson is the executive producer. They haven't even finished the script yet. It's going to be a long while before this is ever released.

And it doesn't really matter who master chief is going to be. They stated they most likely won't reveal his face in the movie. They also said he most likely won't be the main character of the movie.

Ah so it might be based on one of the novels? Or the marines or something?

I've never read any of the books, I just assumed they'd make like Captain Keyes, or Miranda Keyes a main character.

More so, movies should never be video games. But back on the topic, it doesn't matter who produces it and who plays Master Chief, or even how good it is, all that matters is that they're gonna make ton of money off of it.

90% of statistics are completely inaccurate.

Script? The whole Halo thing was about watching drunken frat boys smack elites to a bloody purple pulp. I say they air 2 hours of game play with a bunch of one liners.

Halo is THE WORST franchise ever. Clearly they're going to milk "Halo the cow" for everything she's got until only a shriveled mummy remains. Welcome to the wonderful world of Microsoft. They put out a poll for what the next game should be for gods sakes! Some of the options were just crap. "A Lego Halo game", "A family friendly Halo" and another one were the worst of them.

Did you actually eat a PS3? Why did you even bother posting?

I've heard rumblings that the story doesn't follow the chief, but rather a marine or something.
If the movie is anything like those other videos floating around on youtube, it could be quite good.

It's funny how everyone here argues that Halo is the worst series ever yet it's one of the most successful. Numbers don't lie.

Clearly you are new to the concept of "fun". Those choices were there for the fun of it, I would give you everything I own if they make a family friendly Halo game. So please, stop hatin'.

On that note, I just got finished reading an extensive thread on the bungie.net forums, and after sifting through the pages and pages of fanboys ranting about the Halo 4 cover being on YouTube, I grabbed a couple facts out of the situation.

- There very well might be a new game set in the Halo universe in the works, according to 1up.com and gametrailers.com. It will star colonial marines in a cross between Gears of War and Ghost Recon.

- Bungie is eluding to two new games that they are developing, one in the nearish future, one in the distant future. I have a hunch that one of these will be part of a pre-existing series (be it Marathon or Halo).

Of course, the whole colonial marines thing might just be a hoax, but those are two reliable sites. I don't feel like digging around to find the link though...

Halo Wars is gonna be sick though.

Halo is an actual movie that is suppose to be released in 2010. However, problems have occurred (I believe with the script), and there are rumors that it could be delayed, or cancelled all together.

For an RTS it looks ok but I really hate those type of games. I'm not looking forward to it but it might be good. It has coop and I love coop.

I hope the halos arn't as sterile in the film as in the game. They're 1000+ year old eco systems, but the walls are so shiny!

I reckon lots more dirt should be thrown about.

And about the Chief... It would be good only having rumors or glimpes of Chief being shown. Having the story follow a team of marines.

Inspire: I'll "hate" however much I freaking want thank you. It is fun, but it is NOT a good book or movie idea. Probably why one of my friends is a huge Halo nerd and swears he will never read the books or games. The "fun" of halo is killing. Any game can do this. Heck, Q3 has better MP in my eyes. And why does Halo have so many sells? Hmmm... can anyone think of one reason? Oh yeah, hype and advertising. And it's defiantly not on top for sells. Even with Microsoft pushing it hard, there's no way it's on top. Maybe for Xbox 360, but defiantly not for all consoles/PC. What always makes me laugh is the Halo fanboys. I'll say it here: Halo is in no way bad, but it's also not very good. There are hundreds of better games out there. Bioshock, Crysis, Quake 1 through Wars. Thats only what I have of the top of my head. Heck, maybe even throw SoF: P in there. At least it has fun gore and weapons that are more powerful than the a pea-shooter. All you fanboys can save it, cause there's no way I'll ever change my mind about Halo. Just so you know, I have 20+ hours of playing it, so don't say I haven't tried it. I know what I'm talking about. The only imaginative thing thats truly good fun on Halo is Forge. And also the single-player campaign is ultra short. I've beat it with a friend in about 3 hours on easy.

I have to agree and disagree with you slayer222, I am not trying to change your mind, nor do I even care what you think. I think it's not just because of hype and advertising that Halo is so successful, while it is fun, I do agree there are better games (Bioshock is way better I agree in that), there is also COD4, and Unreal Tournament...the list goes on and on. I agree with you that it is not bad, but not good. It is pretty fun/entertaining and I do know it isn't the top selling game for all consoles, GTA4 is as of right now...and to be honest GTA4 is no where near as good as San Andreas in my opinion...but anyway back on topic, I have heard about the movie, and to be honest I agree with a couple people here I don't think I wanna watch it, because then I might lose all respect for Halo.

Oh God... Here we go :p Whoever disagreed with you, you sure showed him! Lol. I bet he's real hurt by that rant from a stranger miles away over the internet. Much respect friend, you're a god among insects.

On topic, if they made it out of fall of reach, wouldn't they have to show chief's face? Not just as a kid, but before they get any armor. Specifically I'm remembering a scene where he was working out on the space station and the odsts were messing with him and he kicked their arses. Scenes like that would be w/o a helmet and stuff.

Yes they would have to show his face (if they chose to put that scene in the movie) but I heard Samuel L. Jackson was to be Master Chief, so it wouldn't be the same face bungie had in mind when they first made it.

Quote: "Did you actually eat a PS3? Why did you even bother posting?"

Did you actually read my post?

let me help you read what I said...

"overrated game,"
I wrote that because I wanted to express how I don't nessisarilly think that Halo is/was a BAD game, but rather, I think that the game was given too much credit.

"stupid books"
I wrote that to express the idea to turn a game such as Halo into a book just sounds stupid, I am still quite amazed that someone did that, not just that, but that it sold at all.

"I don't even want to know what the movie will be like."
I wrote that because the topic of this thread has to do with Halo the movie that is apparently being created. Previous to this statement I expressed how I felt about Halo in two other branches of media, specifically the video game and the book. Using those two opinions I developed the opinion that to make the movie is a bad idea.

"Video games should never be movies. Especially stupid faddy ones like Halo."
Now, again here is opinion by me. I've rarely, if ever, have seen a good movie that was based off a video game. So basing my opinion off that and what I previously wrote, I have decided that HALO would be an especially bad idea. I referred Halo as a "stupid faddy" game. The only way I can possibly read YOUR post and have it make sense is if I read MY post as "stupid FATTY" game, which is completely different. So I'll assume that's how you read it.

Fad -
–noun
a temporary fashion, notion, manner of conduct, etc., esp. one followed enthusiastically by a group.
[Origin: 1825–35; n. use of dial. fad to look after things, busy oneself with trifles, back formation from obs. faddle to play with, fondle. See fiddle]

—Related forms
fadlike, adjective

—Synonyms craze, vogue, rage.

Fat -
–noun
Any of several white or yellowish greasy substances, forming the chief part of adipose tissue of animals and also occurring in plants, that when pure are colorless, odorless, and tasteless and are either solid or liquid esters of glycerol with fatty acids; fats are insoluble in water or cold alcohol but soluble in ether, chloroform, or benzene: used in the manufacture of soap, paints, and other protective coatings and in cooking.

Halo is a FAD. It's a TEMPORARY fasion. People like it now, yes. They may even like it for a few more years, until another FAD comes out and everyone starts playing that. Then people will write stupid books and make lame movies based off THAT game.

Now, to answer your question, "Why did you even bother posting?":
To express my opinion on the topic at hand. Why did YOU even bother posting?

Stop going off topic ffs.

Yeah, any idiot can beat a game on EASY in three hours if you're doing speed runs. The campaign is actually decently long if you play it on any respectable difficulty. And it would get boring if they dragged it out...and that doesn't even account for replayability. I know I'm still going to be playing the campaign mode next year, let alone the multiplayer. And the story is pretty cool, you can not even deny that. Four novels couldn't be written about two white bars and a white square that bounces in between them.

And if anybody wants to pull the "Bungie fanboy" card on me, go right ahead, although I will immediately regard your post as nonsense. I love both the Marathon and the Halo series. Shoot me. They are genuinely fun games.

Don't blame the marketing and advertising for the sales of Halo games. Is that why Halo 2 was the top game on Xbox Live for whatever ridiculous amount of time it was? Because of advertising? Explain that one to me, pal. You can't fault a game for being fun for millions of people.

I assume you must have a really crappy life to spend your time attempting to put down others on the internet.
I feel sorry for you.
The very fact you patronize me in your response shows me how just insecure you must be in real life.

This thread was to discuss the possibility of the Halo movie, and for others to share any information they have on the subject.

This isn't another place to spread your hate.

XD but in the book I thought he was white! I would hope its not Samuel L. Jackson I'd be sad if one of my fav video game characters turned out to be the man who bullied Anakin Skywalker in not only Star Wars, but Jumper as well! (Yes! It was Anakin in Jumper just a parallel universe in which he lived on modern Earth and had the ability to teleport to different places!)

Inspire: I really don't care if you think Halo could have got so far sell-wise without advertising, thats your problem. And I know we didn't rush through it, just played through it normally. I don't know about you, but I sure can't beat Crysis in 6 hours on easy. This is turning into a flame war. I for one will not be back on this thread. And the Halo storyline rival's Quake 4's in that it's short and tells little. Have fun kids.

This is funny. The topic is halo movie but every one here is bashing the game.

It's even funnier how Halo 3 still remains one of the top, if not the top most played xbox live game.

Why does your opinion count for so much when obviously it is one of the most liked games ever made?

I actually agree with the fact that Halo is a fad. It's definitely nothing special. It's an average shooter game. It doesn't break the mould, but it plays well.

Why every man and his dog appears to be obsessing over it so much is beyond me.

Spending the rest of my "crappy" time dedicated to the cause of others, helping them improve their and their family's lives. As "crappy" of a life that may sound to you, I'm glad I spent the last two years of my life doing that, rather than building up a screen name on a internet community by writing video games.

Anyway, all I said was my opinion on a game. If you want to criticize me for my opinion, go for it. I still stand firmly on what I think. And that's that Halo would make a bad movie, and that the game is just a fad.

Just because the movie is based off the game doesn't mean it's going to be anything like the game. It's going to be an action packed movie with lots of killing and gore. If done right the move will be awesome.

Most of the time games that are made off of movies are horrible but there are exceptions. There aren't very many movies made from games. Mario Brothers became a movie and I love that movie lol.

Because it's 100x better than every other average fun shooter game.

There is no denying that Halo is above average. Out of the bajillions of people (yes, that many) who bought Halo 3, some of them must think it has some redeemable qualities.

Spending the rest of my "crappy" time dedicated to the cause of others, helping them improve their and their family's lives. As "crappy" of a life that may sound to you, I'm glad I spent the last two years of my life doing that, rather than building up a screen name on a internet community by writing video games."

Good for you. Who called your life crappy? You're treating this forum like it's like high school competition for popularity, while most of us are actually here to improve our skills and work on something we find fun. Glad you found something fun to do.

they shouldent make the movie and they will get crap for it but the sad thing is that lots of people will go see it for the hell of it.

oh, and there are alot of fake videos on youtube, don't even check there. i have only seen one legit video that proves they are making it, sadly i dont remember the name. all i know is that there are spikers from the 3d halo (wizzing red spikes in wall) and the camara angles are way too low. it looks like a extreme game of paintball, its not that great. oh, and master cheif isnt in the video, just marines getting raped by brutes nad banshees

you can shoot me for not being a fanboy, but its actually below average... Really, its a game series that still milks on its first release, which was then OK... but not spectaculair, I liked the Unreal games more. Hell, I find playing the original DOOM more interesting.

My previous point that it doesn't break the mould in any way settles it as average. It is an average shooter game.

Hopefully everyone will wake up soon and realise how many great, underrated games have been ignored in favour of this average run-of-the-mill shooter.
