Doom X episode 1
The battle of centuries

Welcome to this thread aboute my upcoming game: the battle of centuries

* * storie * *

I can' t reveal much yet because it would rune the other episodes but i will tell you some things. You are a very though guy who isnt bad form some guns. He is selected for a extreme secret mission on a other planet far from middle earth. Anyway, after the briefing you' ll head to the teleportation room and you will be sned to a floatig city, also known as the lost city because it was lost for years. Originally created by a mad man but also somewone very celever in 1920. Now there apparantly is more then one thing going on because an other team was sent some thim ago. They suddently lost radio contact with the team and so it was time that a hero would show of... you

but apparantly there is more going on then only a team who has lost radio contact. Who is the mysterious man and what happened to the once so welathy city above the surface of a planet nowone really knows?

Tese are the features of episode 1:

- cut scenes telling the story of the odd city made with the movies
- Music that is emontional and very good!
- Action
- Sometimes a bit of a puzzle
- Horror (but i wont make it to scary)
- 11 levels

Doom X will be a 5 to 6 episode game with each about 10-15 levels. They all tell a story apart and it all takes place in the lost city. i' m no working on the first episode and it is all looking good.

these screens are very bland and samey you should get firma v2 to add some variaty to those segments

I did and it does seem rather boring. Add more entities, better lighting, better enemies and some more weapons.

Weapons: I saw one in the video
Enenties: No there's not
Lighting: Not very good placement, stock colour
better enemies: Get cooler bad guys

I understand but it was just a litle teaser trailer. In the game there are about 10 different sorts of weapnons and lots of enities. the lighting is better to but the enetery hall was just meant to by a litle bit odd.... And sorry for my being a bit mean.

Hey there! Okay, I'm not going to be to harsh.
#1- The name of your game is very "origional".. sigh and has not had much thought into it. There is already and game called doom, placing an X is just ripping it off.

#2- what time period?

#3- By this stage as I can see you are taking scense right out of doom 3, the screeny with the boney dude and the blood and candles, is VERY simpilar to the stage that I played in doom 3.

#4- what I have been trieng to say is that come up with you own Ideas.

PS. Hope that I have help and have not created a problem.

sorry for not being so clear search on the forums firma v2 then once you install it you can make custom segments for your games then you go to settings in the programme and find the segment folder in FPSC X10 and when you open it up there you go, the rest of the programme is self explanatory

I have installed it and downloaded it but i get this message: runtime error 8003 - could not find path at line 95. Does anywone knows what i now must do because the program wont run

Your first screen shows an empty corner. I'm not seeing any entities or anything. There is no light source either.

Is the second screen supposed to be scary? If so it isn't really working I suggest you rethink it. In FPSC, unless you are good at modeling it's difficult to make something scary. Darkness isn't scary, just annoying. Use sound effects and things instead.

I've noticed that all your rooms are square. Try to make some complex rooms. Look at this: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=133812&b=25

That is what X10 can do, push it to the max, try to make each room have a purpose with an objective in each. I don't want to have to run through square rooms with random little entities spread across the place. Each room should be a challenge to the player.

Wizard of id's WIP is one of the best DX10 games at the moment. Look at them, and then look at yours and think "What do I need to do to make my levels as good as those".

Hey Butt monkey I don't fully agree with what you said about X10.
X9 can almost every thing that X10 can do.. the ragdoll and awesome water will be coming out soon for X9.
Rely sorry but I had to say something, X9 has feelings to.
And the again you said that the first screen shot had no light source, well I can see that there is a light(the yellow one standing up-right).
however I do agree with what you said about there being a small amount of entities.

rakker126 you should also place more pillers with random dark areas(shadows), then when you walk to close make a sound or make a zombie POP up right in front of your face, or what every you are. This can cause the player to be on edge for a while.

thats just an Idea use it or don't.

Looks like a great idea, thanks for the tip... Im not a scripting hero still so i dont exactly know how to do it. Bu i already let somebody played my game and he scared like hell when a zombie suddently appeared out of a door, he hdan' t suspected that My game needs to be a bit scary but not to...

I don't know where your getting any of this from. I said nothing about X9. I haven't mentioned it. He is using DX10, so i directed him to a good look DX10 game.

I wasn't talking about the first screen. I meant the first of the new screens...

Haha, yeah!

Okay well if you like you could e-mail me and Ill just tell you how to use the apear script, Or even better use the fpsc guide it tells you everything.
And another thing, Take a light, make it spawn off.
Then take as zombie and make him spawn when you enter a trigger zone. make the light turn of as you enter the same zone by making it activate with the same script. Make sure that your zombie is placed right under you light.
Now when you go and walk into the trigger zone the light turns and and a zombie pops up and gives a WACK!!! in the face. that will keep them jumping.

Haha Im still giving these for free.

I'd be careful about spawning zombies right infront of the player though... One, it looks bad if you see them appearing and two, it can get really annoying if they keep spawning in your face.

It sill looks funny and lights falling out even looks better. But how can you turn the light on again then and i easily could sned a email but i cant see a email adres!

It doesn't appear you've used FPSC X10 or you would know there is a lot more to it than X9 currently has. Sure X9 has had the limelight in terms of updates since X10 came out but X10 will receive all those in the migration. On the other hand Lee confirmed X9 will not be receiving most of X10's features so you won't be getting those in an official update.

I agree the mod community have done amazing things for X9 but don't exepect the X9 v2 migration to give you X10 otherwise you'll be disappointed.

Plus if Lee did implement the X10 features into X9 he wouldn't be able to release the X9 source anymore and you'll be stuck with v1.07 compatibility for future mods which I don't see working in X9's favour if you want to see it getting closer to X10.

Sorry to put a downer on things but thats the reality of the situation.

Please can you drop the 'Doom' part of your game names. Airslide made a Doom 1/2 and I made one for Doom 3. I let it go but calling your next game 'Doom: The lost levels'.

Your levels look quite good and have potential but I can't see how these fit with the Doom series at the moment.

And i would like to change the name but how can i do that? i could call it episode 1: finding the city of death

Those are weird levels arent they, you wouldnt suspect them in a city so whats going on there.... it is ashamly for you a secret at this point but a trailer will come soon and the 1 episode is makeing great progres. The 1 episode will take aboute 1 hour to finish and has 11 llevels...

haha well on the whole e-mail thing, I wanted to know if you would be rather interested.

And with the whole zombie thing I have thought of a better solution.
take the zombie( Hl2_dead ) which will be on the floor. So then when you enter that trigger zone thats turns the light on, the zombie will stand up and give you few smacks. However the room will have to be PITCH dark.

Okay!
Make a corridor or room what ever you prefer.
#1: Take a trigger zone and place it were ever you would like the zombie to pop up.
#2: Take a light marker(any), and place it behind the trigger zone were the zombie will jump up.
#3: Take the zombie and place it under the light marker.
#4: Right click on the trigger zone, A side bar should have poped you by now.
[b]Select following scripts!

AImain: [Plrinzoneactivateifused]
Ifused: >name of your light<

Okay now that you have the trigger zone, the zombie right behind it and the light on top, start your test game up.
Make sure that you make the light spawn off, this can be done by right clicking on the placed light. The side bar should come up, then where it says Start- make it Lightoff.
