What do you guys think is the best sounding orchestra VST? Currently, I'm using EDIROL Orchestral, but I feel that I need to buy a more professional and realistic one.

I would appreciate some help

Thanks.

Vienna Symphonic Library.
You probably can't just go out and buy it though, seeing as it costs ~$100 000 for the full version

Of the more affordable pieces, I think that EastWest QuantumLeap Symphonic Orchestra is pretty good (I don't have this myself, so I can't say for sure, but it seems rather good). Depending on how much you want to spend you could either get the gold or platinum edition; the silver one just doesn't contain a full piece orchestra.

For myself I use a special light edition of the VSL that is included when you buy the Kontakt sampler, along with some extra sample packs I've bought from here and there.

There's Vienna's Special Edition. $500

Vienna's Symphonic Cube. $5000

Eastwest's Symphonic Silver $265 , Gold $625, or Platinum $1075.

Sonivox's Complete Orchestra collection. $3000

Garritan's Personal Orchestra. $200

I also have the Vienna stuff that comes with Kontakt 3, of which Rudolpho speaks. ... But If your upgading to something better I recommend getting the Vienna's Special Edition, which I also own. It's inexpensive comparatively, and it has the best legato of any library out there, which vienna is famous for. It sounds real.
If you have the money, I suggest getting Vienna's Symphonic cube which is the sooped up version of the Special Edition.

Try things that you normally wouldn't... you might find the answer.

Ok thanks guys

I'm going to buy Vienna's Special Edition and then save up a bit for the cube

Oh, and I might buy Kontakt. Is it as good as they say?

Hm, I was apparently off - the cube costs 100 000 of my country's currency, but "only" $10 000

Yeah, that special edition seems fine... you don't get any solo strings with the Kontakt edition, which really annoys me...

(And the solo strings you get with EW Collossus isn't precisely the best either )

I would go with East West gold XP as they are not much expensive for a great quality and a great library.

But isn't that even more expensive than the special edition of Vienna's lol

Oh and I will look a bit more into Sampletank, but as of right now, for a sampler, it is Kontakt.

And for the orchestra it seems that I want Vienna XD

Thanks for all the help

Oh, I didn't know EWQL's Symphonic Orchestra packs were that expensive.

I can suggest Steinbergs Halion Symphony Orchestra. Its not quite a full orchestra, but its great for strings as it is pretty much a follow up to their string quartet. The sound quality is good. The interface can seem a little odd at first, but it does have some good features to help make the sounds pretty realistic, once you know your way around the various articulations in the menu. I can be a little heavy on system resorces if you have many parts loaded too. But for the price, the sounds are very, very good. I got mine about 18 months ago to replace EDIROL.
