The problem with the PS3 is its lack of content. Sure it is more powerful and is capable of incredible things, but there aren't many games with better graphics and gameplay than the 360.
In fact, the only game which fits this label is Little Big Planet.

The Wii is just one big gimmick. I had some fun with it, on Zelda and Mario Galaxy etc, but any non Nintendo game is just a bit rubbish really.

While the 360 has major technical flaws and lacks any BluRay support, it is best console out of the three in my mind.
There is just so much to do on it. So many Xbox exclusive games and Demos etc, it just makes the purchase worth it.
And now considering the price has just crashed, it is definitely the right choice for a first time buyer.

(Before you flame me, my opinions are from owning all of the consoles above)

How so, exactly? I'm not arguing that 360 is superior, I'm just interested...

The first two Harry Potter games were really pretty fun, specially the second one on the pc from what I could remember. The third was also quite fun, the forth sucked but the fifth was pretty cool.
Goldeneye was superb, LOTR: Return of The King was awesome and I could go on for a few more games.
Not all movie games are worthless, although I have to admit, most are.

Well you have most likely heard about the Red Rings of Death problem. But there are also issues with the DVD drive. Microsoft had to extend the warranty on the 360 because so many people had problems.

Although I'm not saying every 360 will break. I'm still on the first gen, when it was originally released. But you will be very lucky to find somebody who hasn't had problems with their 360.

But I now have issues with the DVD drive. Some games refuse to play, and it makes an awful grinding sound if stood upright. But considering its about 3 years old, I think its had a good run.

I'm talking about Hardware issues really. You can read more about them here:

took the words right out of my mouth. Wii sounds cool at first but the target audience is pretty much for people who dont play games. once they have that audience, they sell them crap games and rip them off. it is definitely a gimmick.

you can buy a game like that yoga game or something and buy that matt controller thing too for a total of like $50+ or you could just buy an instructional video for like $15. i mean...seriously. i seen a cooking game for the DS or something and thought that was pathetic. i mean, buy a cookbook or watch the food network. at this point, nintendo is just looking for tools to buy their gimmick. their reputation is the only thing thats really keeping them strong in this console war.

If at first you dont succeed, call it version 1.0.

My 360 stands upright & rarely grinds.

Also, it runs pretty well, save for the 1/100 chances that GTAIV freezes. I've never gotten the RROD but my brother did, sent it down to Texas where Microsoft is, and got it back a few weks later refurbished. It's similar to the old Xbox (which I sadly miss) except it's smaller and next-gen.

Nintendo and PlayStation, on the other hand, aren't my favorite. The GC was okay, but it was tiny, has tiny discs, and was basically a purple box that did electrical stuff. PlayStation's way overhyped, as well as the Wii, but the 360 is perfect, IMHO.

Please don't flame a Microsoft fanboy, as I never really played the Wii and PS3 anyways.

@Biggadd, thanks for the info. I have had RRoD on mine, as well as everyone else at my school who owns one.

Please, don't use that word. I'm certainly not a fan of PlayStation, but that word will quickly turn this thread into a raging storm of flames.

And would de-rail the thread. Usually best to avoid the terms, usually it'll annoy somebody - personally now that I have a PS3, I wouldn't say it's over hyped, I quite like it, I've played the Wii and 360, also both good consoles. To me, it's about what games you want to play and which can bring the best experience to you, and everybody's different.

I hear the 360 Elite is more stable than the other 360s, from what I understand Microsoft fixed the problems for that version...though I don't understand why they haven't fixed it for the others.

From looking at those technical problems, it shows that perhaps Microsoft released their console too early, and to an extent hurt its reputation.

I have been thinking of buying a 360 myself actually - Fable 2, GoW/GoW 2 are a few 360 games that have interested me, but I don't have the money for anything new. It comes as a surprise to my family (including the parents) as they're playstation fans.

Here's my observation;

Last generation, when there was the original Xbox and PS2, PS2 was undoubtedly more popular, although Xbox was probably the better and more hardy console. For example, near the end of those two consoles, some PS2 games refused to play on PS2s.

But this generation, it seems the other way 'round, although I could be wrong. PS3 seems to be the more powerful and durable console, where Xbox is the one that seems to be made out of cheap chinese plastic. I mean, I don't own a PS3, but I own a 360, but there you have it. My unbiased opinion (and that's rare!).

ah... right, the other reason i've lost faith in consoles is because about a month after my xbox 360 broke, my ps2 quit playing games. I actually went back to playing the original nintendo... which was actually way more fun than on the 360, if you don't count online play (or crackdown/halo3/oblivion/assassin's creed)

I actually really dislike the ps3's control scheme for shooters. I always hated the ps2 on shooters. I'm usually pretty decent at cod4 on the 360, coming out on or near the top. I went over to a friends house and played it on the ps3, and lost... and lost... and lost...

Besides that, i really haven't had much opportunity to play the ps3. I'm dying to play little big planet, but without a friend that would leave me alone with his ps3 for a couple days... that's probably not going to happen.

I'd still say that the xbox 360 is the best out of all of them. It has the games, it has the support, it has the network, and it has the graphics. Nintendo definitely has some good games for the wii, but the replayability is waay less than the 360.

It only takes about 1/4 a second to scratch the disk all the way around.
