I think I'm gonna ask everyone for money / gift cards, cause I am moving out 'on my own' in 2 weeks and I'll need cash to buy 'house stuff' even though it's not a house, it's an apartment, and it's not on my own, it's with a cousin. But we'll still need crap...

I might buy my family some stuff, a video game or 2 for the sibs, dunno what for my older brother. Maybe a gift card for the 'rents to go out to eat? Dunno. Never bought Christmas presents before. I feel I should now that I have a job.

I have been thinking about it lately. I'm still in High School, so I really don't have the resources to think about what I should get others, but I have thought about what is within reason to get. I know that sounds selfish, but I honestly don't have the means to get people gifts.

But, due to the financial crisis that you mentioned, I'm not going to be unreasonable about what I'm setting my hopes on. I'm thinking one of these, assuming the price drops before Christmas:

Christmas present shopping always reminds me of playing one those zombie shooter games, well,, minus the shotgun at least. Running around calving your way through thousands of dazzed shoppers looking for the last bargain. Not my idea of fun.

I'm thinking of the christmas food already. Mmm food. Although about the gifts... I'm sort of broke, erm. So that may be an issue.

I've got my Celtic Woman Christmas album playing already, and my cinnamon scented candles a-blazin!

I was hoping I would have a job by now so I could buy other people presents for once, but alas I'm a broke and selfish person!

Soapy I agree with you totally.. Christmas (and Birthdays) to me aren't about giving presents and such but being around friends and family getting wasted and eating until you can't no more.

I've been like this since I was a teenager and it's taken my family until now to realise this. This said I live with my brother, and yeah we get each other stuff all year round... so Christmas and Birthday present giving has extra little meaning in that sense.

I know that my mom and dad both despite neither being Christian are really in to Christmas, but then they just love getting presents they like that you've spent a bit on. It's the whole surprise aspect as well cause they hate knowing what you got them.

About a month ago I bought an XBOX 360 for my mom and step-dad cause both kept coming over to mine and hogging ours.. but told them when I gave them it, not to expect anything for Christmas itself. It seems stupid cause if we were at the start of the year, they would've asked why, but cause we're so close to Christmas they accept that as an excuse why I don't wanna spend anything on them over Christmas itself unless it's >35%

I hate the whole commercial aspect of Christmas, but think of it this way Soapy. You remember what 5-6years ago prior to the advertising law changes, when they were starting to hype Christmas around August time. Atleast now they legally can't start more than 60days before Christmas itself. Still kinda bad cause you're right Halloween (another holiday I truely hate) and Guy Fawkes night (that to my disappointment seems to have been greatly ignored this year) and Christmas adverts start just before these.

Good point mind though, seriously what the hell happened with Guy Fawkes night this year? It was almost non-existant and practically no one is talking about parties they're doing this year. Hell it's so bad even Watford Council aren't funding the annual fireworks display in Casio Park

It's still going ahead but it's like much shorter and smaller this year. Really gets to you when traditional English holidays are getting wiped out for those primarily from other counteries. (::coughHalloweencough:

That's quite a bizarre statement considering the topic! I guess it just shows what Christmas has become.

Quote: "At least now they legally can't start more than 60 days before Christmas itself."

I didn't realise that, but it explains why they've stopped replacing the easter eggs with christmas decorations I do actually remember seeing Christmas displays in August a few years ago.

I knew my family couldn't be the only ones obsessing over christmas. In fact, they've pretty much set this week as a deadline for christmas lists. (Maybe eBay takes two months to deliver.)

I have an additional question:
Sooooo, who here is going to put off Christmas shopping until the very last minute, then run around in a panic trying desperately to find something good for your family and friends?

It's not so much that I'm thinking about Christmas, it's that I'm thinking about the snow that comes around that time. It's very peaceful here when that happens, and right now, I need to relax.

Other than that, Christmas hasn't much entered my mind, except that I want it to come faster.

Depends on how much he appreciates the gifts. Although from the message he posted it does sound like he's spoiled. Although I'm not much to say, I get way too much expensive stuff.

No, but you obviously wanted responses since you were basically "showing off" how much awesome stuff you're getting. And if you want to get responses, you get responses. Deal with it.

So why did you state what you were getting for christmas in a thread that was asking if someone else was thinking about Christmas already. Sounds like showing off to me.
Anyway, to keep on topic, I like having the Christmas decorations up pretty early, since it gives that nice sort of mood to the apartment, won't do it yet, but maybe in a few weeks or so. I'm always a fan of red shiny lights.

It's also a bit hypocritical, as the thread-mastah never asked you for that, but you "answered" anyway. He probably doesn't care either.

And I'm soo drinking read bull in the christmas spirit right now. Gonna be up late and do some cleaning. I can hardly find the door leading out of this place.

Geez, all the lucky kids getting their video games bought for them these days... My parents refused to ever buy me a single video game and as a result, every game in my treasured collection was purchased with my own hard earned money (also, its a small collection ).

I will be celebrating dutch Christmas (Sinterklaas) with my family, so I have to come with a 'surprise' present. :F

I hate thinking about Christmas before *at least* December 1st (or when snow falls and actually sticks, whichever comes first).

I'm looking forward to drinking lots of egg nog My parents are moving to the other side of the country next month so it will be the first Christmas without them. Not really a big deal as I'm married now, but it will still feel different.

I literally only have about 4 people to buy for every year, so that's easy for me.

That's capitolism-materialism for you. Christmas has become a very materialistic ideal. When you cut out the carols and the christians and the lights and the trees, you're left with a leaping desire for a stocking full of goodies. I don't blame him. We're all like it.

Well, Christmas is great way to turn perfectly good legal tender into a boot load of pretty useless gadgets . So yeah, I'm over the whole present thing, the part I enjoy now is just getting together with the entire family.

I'm thinking about my birthday. It's 11/26/08. I don't think I'll be getting anything - course then again I didn't expect anything. Am I the only one who thinks this time of year as more depressing than happy?

Cheers,

I'm ditching the helpless Wii and I've asked for a 360 Arcade for Christmas. My little brother wants it too so we're getting it joint.

Won't be getting any games for Christmas... that's for my birthday on the 16th of Feb. Will just stare at it forlornly in the meantime.

I agree 100 percent.

Anyways, I'm broke, so buying gifts is out of the question. However, I may ask for a motherboard and some headphones, or something like that. Not everyone can afford over $1000 bucks in gifts like Agent Dink pointed out.

Really in all honesty i love the time of year and stuff....but could care less for the presents. My family has had problems over the past 3 years with a closed down business so i always got the short end of the stick. But now that my family business is about to open with a 2 year $250,000 contract meaning $10,000 a month i could be in for some cool stuff but i dont really care its not about that.

There are alot of things i want more then anything ....but there not material items there wish's and prayers and life matter i wish to get straightened out. I mean sure i really want
Leadwerks.....and that video card......and a new tv......and more cloths.... But all of that can wait for what i really want i cant have. Seeing as the one (girl) i care about wont be there around that time...she is going to visit London...and things are on the rocks so i really want to get them resolved before she leaves for her London vacation...Thats my Christmas wish....hope its not too selfish.

I also want that warm Christmas feeling and now that this year my family can afford stuff it will be nice to see people get what they want as well as a new little one to the family (brother) will experience his first Christmas so i hope all of you have a great holiday and you get what you all want weather material or not.

Have a Great one guys.

We don't make a big deal over Christmas - we usually get the family round but as for giving gifts, we don't really do any more than at Easter. Saying that, I think my parents will be getting my room refurbished shortly after Christmas which although I'm grateful for as I'm struggling to find room for all the junk in here, I'll probably have moved out by the time it's finished!

Myself and my friends have made an agreement not to buy each other presents, as in the past it's always proven to be quite awkward and a bit of a mess, so we just go out for a meal and a few drinks during the Christmas break . We've all agreed it's far better than worrying ourselves over presents.
