I have been looking around for a free version for educational use for Havok Destruction and DMM, but couldn't find one. I know that DMM has a try version for Maya and Havok has a pc version for c++. It doesn't include havok destruction though.

What I have been trying to figure out is some way to bring destruction of objects to the masses.

I played around with vertex commands as well trying to figure out how to get objects to break apart into triangles by splitting them up into smaller objects. I also had the idea of applying physics to it afterwards. Although, I was having problems connecting the vertexs into 3D triangles, so it didn't get very far.

I was wondering if anyone would have the knowledge or the will to contribute to the idea of destruction.

Thanks for any feedback,

Dark Fire,

I had been searching for some theory behind computing breakable objects myself over the summer, and I may have come across some of the programs you have mentioned. I have a link to some theory on this (the paper is under a link called "Fracturing Rigid Materials") amongst a lot of other interesting things there:

I should point out that there is quite a bit of mathematics involved, which I haven't as yet looked into (other work taking priority), but it looks interesting.

What I am trying to start out with is creating a fracture at a point of an object. This would be something like bullet collision and vertex minipulation commands. I have been having problems with the basic vertex minipulation in DB Pro. There doesn't seem to be any way of taking a low poly model and being able to fracture it into smaller pieces unless you were able to sub divide the model to make it have more detail. Doing this would also create more of a processor drag and I don't know if it is even close to being possible in DB Pro. It might even be better to develop it in DGK and Physx.

Any ideas for creating a fracture at a point on a high poly model would be great!

Thanks for posting ideas,

It might be better to integrate Havok with DGK then with DBP. If they had a build for VB .Net it would be great.
