Pretty cool trick. They're using a spinning mirror to project an image much like R2D2 projected of Princess Leah in Star Wars

According to one of the comments on that thread, this aparently is old, so some of you may have seen this before. But it still looks way sweet.

Has anyone seen this?

I was aware of the technology, but it's hardly old, I mean the general public just isn't aware of this stuff, let alone own any of it. It's pretty cool.

If they could simulate that into a game it would be a beast! Imagine a real holographic game world *mouth drouls*

Imagine playing on the holodeck!

Lets see, an angled mirror sitting on a spinning table, behind a plexi-glass cylinder, that's not too much, Projectors are expensive, but not too bad. In a world where people pay $10000 for flat-screen televisions, this doesn't seem like too much of a stretch.

I imagine the main barrier is media, how does one create content for a holotank?

Who in their right mind would ever buy a television for that amount of money?!

At my work, we actually sell a $80,000 TV. Only two were sold up till now, but still.

Guess I'm wrong, is that TV made out of solid gold or something though? What makes it so expensive?

Oh. I'm going off topic. Sorry.
I wouldn't really want to play a holographic game, I mean sure, it'd be nice and all. But I'm sure that in the near future we'll have near photo-realism on the PC if technology keeps advancing as it has and it'd probably take a lot longer if you'd now bother to try and do it umm, "holographically" if you know what I mean. I'd rather look into my screen.

Can anyone imagine playing a game like Left4Dead in actual VR?? (Painless VR, btw, lol)

Maybe I'm fantasizing here, but I think that'd be wicked cool.
