Title says it all folks.
I'm re-making the envisioned manor I thought of when
I read "The Fall of the House of Usher". It is one of Poe's
finest works and a must-read for the avid dark romantic.
I plan to make this level more story oriented and also tell
the story myself. This mansion will be quite lofty in size and
may or may not have any "killing" but that is yet to be decided.

This is only a side project and of coarse it will not be commercial.

Astek

(Also... the room is in progress. If you'd like to contribute some
old-type furniture or something, I wont mind. As for now, I'm going
to use what I've bought from the store, stock, or what I'm created myself.)

Attached is a corner of the parlor room.
And if you're wondering, that is Poe himself in
the picture. I plan to give cameo appearances and such in the game.
If someone also wouldn't mind re texturing a character to make
him look more perverse or perhaps look like Poe,
I wouldn't mind that either. As said before, I will
use what I've got otherwise.

Thanks

Astek

The main hall layout seems familiar This is looking fantastic, you've pulled the lighting of just right and this is way, way better than anything I done with Hell House. Can't wait to see this one finished.

Update:

I'm still working on the mansion and I plan to make this a
"story book" mini-game. I'm also going to include (non-canon)
objects you can find and read that set the story a little
deeper. And yes, there will be a point were you get to tour the
whole mansion. I've also created the opening video for the
"The House of Usher". It is attached below.

Comments and criticism accepted.

I saw your Hell House thread but I never saw what the hall looked
like. I its guess just a lucky build.

Woah - a FPSC game inspired by Poe?

Now THIS is the kind of game I want to play! The WW2/Aliens/Zombies games all pale in intellectual depth.

Are you planning on focusing on the whole Id/Ego/Superego aspect of the House/Sister/Brother? (Or the "three souls" interpretation of the tale.) I thought of doing something similar to this myself (though not in FPSC) where the three "characters" (house included) were aspects of the player's mind, and they were journeying through their own head and watching their minds deteriorate as the three aspects of their psyche became imbalanced. Of course, that's only one interpretation - and it is rather a tenuous one, since there isn't much talk of psychology in the tale itself (and was only put forward after Poe's death).

Edit: the vid is nice, I like the use of creepy text and a macabre piece of art. Gives it a twisted story-book feel to it...

I have story zones that you will be able to go into
to tell the story. I should get this done very soon.
I'll post update pictures once I'm satisfied with the game.

BINGO. I go in-depth even more so about what the interpretations
would be and maybe how Roderick was before his mind collapsed.

The main hall from screenshot 1 reminds me of the mansion from Tomb Raider 2. Looks quite good.

I love it but can you try to add a rug in the first screen. I think it would make it look cool.

The trailer was extremely nice. I guess you just made a video out of the pictures of the book? anyway, good attempt, ASTEK!
