The internet is, of course, a hotbed for meme's. But where did they all come from? Any particular pattern to their origin?

Meme's like All your base are belong to us, Lolcats, Motivational posters, Pedo bear... serge adjio, lmao

My guess is 4chan.

I don't know about those others but I'm quite sure Serge Adjio came from his mother.

Some are urban legend, some are hacker speak, some are video game classics (all your base), some are txt spk from the times before txts even existed. Most are parodies of one thing or another, and nearly all just came from people like you and me, who either made them up (lolcats), or contributed to spreading them.

An interesting fact: Did you know that the word 'meme' was invented by Richard Dawkins, and supposed to be analogous to a 'gene', but in real life terms? Pretty interesting. Anyway, yeah, prolly 4chan.

The de-motivators came from the posters one would often see in an office building.
They would have an inspirational picture of a mountaintop or an eagle, and would say things like "Inspiration: If you can dream it, you can do it" or "freedom: the ability to bring your dreams to life"
They were meant to motivate the workers. So, someone reversed that, and made the "De-motivator" saying things like "Cosplay: if you cant be a good example, you just have to be a horrible warning." With a picture of a huge hairy guy dressed as sailor moon.

If the good lord had intended us to go outside or have a social life, he wouldn't have invented the internet.

haha, that was good =] I saw some I didn't know about too.

The horrible, but sometimes hilarious thing about internet meme's is, they are GREAT when you understand them. But when you try and tell them to a coworker or a friend who isn't into that sort of stuff, they just look at you and give you one of those 'yeah uh huh' laughs and pass you off.

NO WAI!

Obviously. What I was getting at was where on the internet. I was curious to find out if a few particular sites had a knack for being the trend setters.

No, of course not. A meme is something random that just starts as something funny and then grows. Some sites are simply more random than others and therefore set a meme more often, but in most cases its just something that picks up momentum.

They're all from 4chan.

Most people don't seem to know that. Most claim that the first spam e-mail sent out was an add for SPAM, hence "e-mail spam." xD

Actually the father of memes would have to be 2chan as 4chan is its baby.
