Okay, so I've finally taken the time to buy a Rubik's cube and solve it, and it's extremely simple to solve it...when I have the instructions in front of me. I'm having some trouble memorizing how to solve it, and I was wondering if you guys had any special solutions that were easy to memorize, or what you guys did to memorize it. Any ideas?

Do it over and over again.

Your hands will memorize it man; i found its just like piano

Say the steps as you do them, too

I say once youve solved it 20 times you may be able to just do it without instructions man. Trust me, like give it a few hours every day for a week and you'll have it totally nailed.

@Drew:

Actually soon after posting I tried w/ out instructions and did it! It took 15 min but I did it. So I guess you're right, I'll just do it often for the next week or so. Thanks!

I once bought a rubik's cube and I couldn't figure it out on my own, so I looked online how to do it, so I did it and thought: "I want my 15 dollars back"

Yah, just do it again and again and it will stay with you forever.

I lubed my old cube and it exploded on me one day when I was solving it, almost as if it had some sort of pent up energy.

Explosive Rubik's Cubes...hmm....that gives me an idea.

I think at Matt Rock's inauguration a Rubik's Cube as a present would be an appropriate gift!

I once had a Rubik's Cube that my cousin took apart and put back together to 'solve' it. It never worked after that...

I bought a Rubik's Cube about 2 weeks ago. I sat down and figured it out over the course of a couple hours. After that, it seemed pretty easy. I didn't use any "steps", other than going top to bottom, didn't get anything from online either.

So, if anyone asked me "How do you solve a rubik's cube?" I wouldn't really have an answer because it's just common sense to me now.

I found out how to do it last year, by watching videos on youtube to help me, then I wrote down the Algorithms on a peace of paper, and just kept doing it over and over again, after about an hour or so, I could do it slowly but remember the Algorithms. Over due time you will gradually get the "finger flicking" technique, and learn to speed cube, I know its not much, but my record is 42.1 seconds solve (some with my eyes closed). What about anyone else?

With a brand new, very sticky, non-lubed cube... my record is 2:00.18

Yes... that is my only cube.

1:30 is my average!

Also: I really shouldn't post this but my brother 'got some action' with a rubix cube. A girl said she would... if he could solve it. He did. She did. ACTUAL TRUE STORY!!!!!!!!

It just comes down to practice. The more you do the algorithms the faster your brain will automatically respond to which algorithm to use until you build up muscle memories. There are harder algorithms that solve the cube faster as well, but I never looked into them much.
