Interesting.

No-one in the UK admits to having ever watched it.

That show is honestly one of my favorite shows of all time. One of the few I actually find excellent.

That show still runs here for some reason. We get treated with a lot of old british shows. I don't know if it's a military psy-ops experiment or just the way it's supposed to be.

Anyway, I prefer drama shows over comedy. I rarely watch comedy at all.

Disagree at least with the US office being better.

UK version of office is a masterpiece of comedy.

US version is FAIL. Not a patch on the UK version, think most people will agree with that.

The problem I find with American comedies is they drag them on for way too long until people are tired of the show and it gets canceled. Seinfeld was smart as he ended the show when they were on a high note. Most UK comedies I've seen end after just 2 seasons of 8 episodes per season. That is great. The American Office, while not as good as the UK version IMHO, outlasted its welcome. It was funny in the beginning, but how many years can we tolerate the same contrived uncomfortable situations happening again and again?

Quote: "Americans (or Canadians)"

Let's make sure not to lump us all together. Canadian humour is almost always very awful compared to American humour. We have had a few great shows in the past (SCTV for example, which started the careers of Martin Short, John Candy, Eugene Levy, Joe Flaherty, and a bunch of other greats, Kids in the Hall, Trailer Park Boys, and Kenny vs. Spenny), but most of our stuff is state-produced CBC crap.

btw, you should watch Curb Your Enthusiasm. Larry David (the guy who did Seinfeld) is the main character and it's hilarious to see him make any situation awkward and making petty arguments over nothing. It's done without a script, so dialogue seems really natural and everything.

This is a signature.

I always prefer British comedy of the American stuff. Like BatVink said, American comedy is always in your face, whereas the British humour is a little bit more sophisticated.

I think my favorite British comedies are

The Good Life
Spaced
Black Books
The Office
Extras
All the classics like - George and Mildred, As time goes by, Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, Keeping up appearances etc.

My favorite US comedies are

Frasier
Everybody loves Raymond
Friends
Will and Grace
Cheers

My Favorite Comedians are:

Billy Connolly
Ross Noble
Bill Bailey
Lee Evans

I find with the American comedy, it isn't a case of laugh out loud funny, but just amusing to watch. (Apart from Frasier)

American comedies...

The Daily Show

Favorite comedians...
Richard Pryor
George Carlin
Ardol O'Hanlon (sue me, lol)
Ricky Gervais
Eddie Murphy (back when he did stand up anyway)

Altough I tend to watch Battlestar Galactica from time to time too. See, I can be flexible.

As you guessed, I do not routinely watch any show, except maybe for one. Don't have the patience to watch much TV anymore.

I have no TV right now (and I'm actually enjoying it!), but my favorite TV shows have always been and always will be:

Dr. Who (Obviously British)

Home Improvement
The Cosby Show
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Mythbusters
MacGyver
24
Star Trek: Next Generation

Yeah, I'm not much into other stuff...

jimmy kimmel will not be on top gear, it's Adam corolla. I agree that it just isn't the same without the original guys, which is why I couldn't really get into the Aussie version. Unfortunately, the people don't get a say in the matter and there is no Top Gear on DVD last time I checked. I think it was NBC that tried to work something out with having the trio come to the states and do some shows here with more American cars, but they didn't want to fly back and forth so much, not to mention clarkson hates America cause he only visits the dumbest areas. It's like going to Switzerland and saying all of Europe sucks.

Dunno, considering I mentioned it a lot earlier in the thread

Quote: "I love Moss"
Yeah, he is class. And the IT crowd is very good. I wish they would bring back the Goth in the new series... Anyways, that reminds me, as good as Moss is, it's only his 3rd best character. For the best (and incidentally the boss from the 2nd and 3rd series) character he has done then watch the best show ever. Yes, obviously I am talking about Darkplace. Obviously you lot forgot about this masterpiece, but probably because it's a genre leading horror show from the 80's that redefined the level of excellence for a show about horror. And it had giant eyes. And apes. And broccoli. And not a pisstake at all. And don't forget it's probably as good as Quantum Leap.

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

That show is just pure genius. Unfortunately I can't convince many other people to watch it... I guess the language jokes are wasted on most dutch people.

Me too, I thought that was awesome, having people text him after the show. I also liked his show Lead Balloon though finding episodes of that in the US isn't an easy thing to do.

Yes, shame it isn't him doing Live at the Apollo anymore, he put on a good laugh when some of the guest comedians couldn't get a laugh out of me.

I reckon Michael MacIntyre's good on that as well, but then some Welsh guy came on and started talking about torches and candles, so it was pretty disappointing lol....

haha, yeah I was in the audience for 2 nights of live at the apollo (i.e. 4 shows ) the best comedian BY FAR was Russell Howard (I also saw his standup show at the apollo a couple months ago too which was awesome) - He'll be on in the next few weeks so keep an eye out for him!

I'm a great fan of UK comedy - the office, extras, lead balloon, peep show etc I think it's a lot more complex than american comedy which as someone said above is a lot more 'in your face' and you can blatantly tell what jokes are coming. I think laughter tracks 'prompting' you to laugh are bad too. I dunno if anyone saw the last episode of lead balloon (karma) but I laughed so hard when Rick started having a go at Michaels painting. It's not laugh-a-minute stuff but it's clever and when the jokes come it's very good lol

The only american show I watch is family guy which I like because it's so stupidly funny.

I hear a lot of people say that, but I just don't find him all that funny - okay he's done a couple of jokes I find funny, but most of the time I don't laugh at his jokes.

I also sat down and watched a lot of this UK comedy with two guys with strong accents who drive around and live in their RV. It's pretty good, but I can't remember the name.
