I need to get VB6 for a project of mine... Do you know where I can get it from?

^He's wanting 6.0, not 9.0.

There isn't a way to do so, unless you know someone who has an old copy. Otherwise, there aren't any legal methods that I know of. Sorry.

Besides, why do you need 6 and not 9? Is there a reason you need 6?

I need six because of a school project... I have 9 anyway... They're teaching us 6, which in my opinion is stupid

Are the versions that much different? I don't know much about programming but with softwares like Maya all the versions are very similar in UI and all of that. Just a few minor improvements for every version.
EDIT: I probably shouldn't even talk here, I'm in way over my head.

Wow that Dreamspark thing is pretty cool, downloading some things now including XNA, Expression Studio and Visual Studio 2008 Pro.

Nice.

<yes, the link doesn't work, deal with it.>

Actually, they're very different. But, as he said, the school teaching 6 is pretty stupid.

There are serious differences between Visual Studio 6.0 and 2002+
Most noteably is the User Interface, while yeah things are basically in similar places it all works differently enough to cause confusion.

Another HUGE difference are the Platform SDKs they support.
I'd say the best play to get Visual Studio 6 would probably be Amazon. You should be able to get a copy quite cheap.

Another option is going onto Microsoft.com, they used to provide the Visual C++ 6.0 compiler and standard libraries for free, which could be easily used with MinGW Developer Studio Editor (which is basically identical to VS6 IDE)... although god knows if Microsoft still provide this on their website, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

They use to provide a student version of vb6 for free. It also came free with a number of books around that time, including my textbook for a VB 6.0 course. I don't think there is anything wrong with providing it to you, if it was given out free to begin with. So let me know if you have trouble locating it. I have about 4 discs with it on them.

Yeah I just looked for it too, and unfortunately since VSxpress is free I can't find any official downloads for the free vb 6.0 .

When I get back home tonight, I'll post about getting you the product.

wasn't VB6 the last release before VB.net which was strictly OO, whereas previous versions were not?

Where can I upload VB 6. I am pretty sure the file is fairly large(a couple hundred mb), and I don't have my webserver anymore. I still have a gmail account, but can't remember the size limit.

I have a local apache server, can I configure that or can I set up a quick and dirty IIS server with Vista (I have Home Premium).

megaupload allows for something like 300-500mb... or there's that filesite that everybody "used" to use... dunnno if they still use it, it's called Fileshack/hut/share or somehting similar. It used to have loads of games advertising on it.

I'll post back here when it's up.

DO NOT discuss sharing of programs on the forums. Even if something is free, you must download it from the legitimate location. It's not a free-for-all, and it is up to Microsoft to decide whether someone qualifies for the product.
