I was on the DB forums on a library computer yesterday, but I can't remember for sure if I properly logged out. I probably hit "Logout" on autopilot, and even if I didn't I'm pretty sure I had the Login page set to Auto-logout when I closed the browser window, but there's still that niggling doubt.

I have since logged in and successfully logged out of the forums, but could someone just confirm for me - when I now click "Logout" am I completely out of the forums, on every computer I've ever been logged in on?

This is probably a very silly question to ask, given that I'm 99% sure I did actually log out properly, but I would be grateful if someone could just set my mind at rest.

Thanks in advance
Robert the Robot

by default, you're logged out of the forums as soon as you close the browser.

No, it's based on a cookie on each machine.
But as El Goorf says, you may have taken the default option, which will log you out as you close the browser.

Right - I was actually back at the same computer earlier today, and the DB forums came up with no one logged in.

The computer runs Internet Explorer 7, and before I left I cleared the history. If you follow this link you can see the windows I got up. I went "Tools", "Internet options", looked at the browsing history se\ction and clicked Delete. I then clicked "Delete All" on the window that appeared.

I didn't get any other dialogue boxes up, so am I right in thinking that I've gotten rid of all the cookies on that machine and any that would have kept logged me into the DB forums?

I'm pretty sure that's actually what I did do - I just couldn't remember for certain , so I thought I'd better ask.

Thanks for your help!

You might want to make it a habit to reboot your computer when you're done. I find that our local library has software the re-images the user account on logout/in.

What do you mean, re-image? It's not a term I've ever heard before...

(Oh, and as I asked earlier, will clearing my browsing history delete all cookies?)

Basically wipes the computer and reinstalls a fresh copy of the OS. This way, almost no virus or personal data can be left behind.

I don't know how it works, or if it's nearly so thorough (perhaps they just delete the user account). I've never looked into it, really.

Ah, right. I'll bear that in mind for the future...
Thanks!

[Edit] Just been doing some googling, and I think I've answered my own question. Clicking "Delete All" under IE7's browsing history tab does get rid of the cookies, so I'm definitely logged out of the forums on that particular machine. Phew.
