Yes, because I don't mind my bank, my wife, my government, and anyone else so interested to know when I visited a boobie bar. Or how much alcohol I drink in a month. Or where I vacationed.

I use debit cards as much as the next guy, but cash will *never* disappear. Too many people have secrets they don't share with their wives.

The day the government stops printing cash is the day when they want to know everything you do, or the day when money no longer becomes needed.

Oh, we have debit machines everywhere to... but most people dont use them. Like I said everyone I know uses cash.

What if you wanted a pizza delivered. Is he going to carry around a debit or credit machine?

Whenever I order out, I call in my debit card number. I pay mostly by debit card. However, when I go out to party or gamble, it's all cash

Yes, I do that all the time. I swipe the card and can even tip him with debit or credit. He uses a fancy wireless thingie that does it all over the cellphone networks. It's such a normal thing here I'm surprised there's even surprise in this forum

In this day and age you need to watch your accounts when all you use is your debit card, not all receipts that print out for the merchant and customer keep your entire card number private some only keep the last 4 and others show the whole thing for the merchant. Plus if they have your first and last name you better be careful thats why we keep track of everything we spend money on to make sure we arent getting duped by the people we do business with, not everyone is trust-worthy no matter what there job is.

That reminds me:

Every time I use a credit card at a merchant and I have to sign the receipt, if I notice my entire credit card number written on the paper I scribble it out. There is absolutely no reason for the merchant to have access to your number. The bank will be able to link your credit card with the receipt ID. I'm not sure why some machines print out the entire number and some just the last 4 digits, but make sure you keep an eye out for this.

It's a setting on the machine itself, in most cases. The merchant keeps a copy of the number whether you realize it or not.

Logic would say the merchant can't access the credit card numbers at the end of the day, as that would be a security risk. There's absolutely no reason for the merchant to have the number.

^^ read the above. It's usually a requirement from the credit card processor.

Technically, I can think of a dozen ways merchants can get by without having a copy of your credit card number. IRL though, they have to have it.

Hmm then it's different here. There's absolutely no reason that once the card has been accepted on the machine, that the bank will not take care of it 100% afterward. I still have a hard time believing the merchant ever has to even see the number, but he *will* have to keep the receipt records for a few years for tax reasons. The receipt will have a unique ID that can be referenced through the bank if necessary.

That's how I'd do it, anyways
