This looks like a very interesting book and i liked the first chapter a lot, I am really looking forward to reading the whole thing.

From the website:
Despite the media hype and political posturing, new, federally funded research on violent video games and teenagers indicates that the politicians and even some health professionals may have it all wrong!

“This year’s best book about interactive entertainment”

—Toronto Globe and Mail

In 2004, Drs. Lawrence Kutner and Cheryl K. Olson, co-founders and directors of the Harvard Medical School Center for Mental Health and Media, began a $1.5 million study funded by the U.S. Department of Justice on the effects of video games on young teenagers. In contrast to previous research, they studied real children and families in real situations

What they found surprised, encouraged, and sometimes disturbed them.

Coming to the project with no agenda except to conduct sound, responsible research, their findings conform neither to the views of the alarmists nor of the video game industry. In Grand Theft Childhood, Kutner and Olson untangle the web of politics, marketing, advocacy and flawed or misconstrued studies that until now have shaped parents’ concerns.

Haha, makes you wonder about all the previous research.

I dont get why people try to get rid of the gta games lets face it its just something to blame. The killings and other stuff will always happen regardless for example in the 70s when the most violent video games got was when you threw the pong paddle at your mate out of the frustration of losing for the 20th time but that girl still shot all those kids cause she didnt like mondays. we wont ban mondays though will we. The responsiblity remains and allways will remain with the parents who allow kids to get to this point.

Did you read anything or are you just stating your opinion? Because the book isn't saying video games cause people to be violent, they debunk lots of those kind of myths.

nah i was just saying because the general oppinion of a lot of people is that the games or companys are to blame for kids going on killing sprees and that kind of the thing. but to me that's the most ignorent conclusion to come to because its the parents who sould be educated when it comes to this. Why should the game company have to get any crap because the parents are too cowerdy to take responsibility for allowing their mentally challenged kid access to adult games?
