Game Details
Title: Secrets of the Third Reich
Genre: WWII w/Cult References
Release: Demo
Developer: Airslide Games

FPSC Details
Version: 113 BETA

Overview
This is a project I had intended to form into a complete FPSC game, however only this demo remains as I am moving it on to Dark Basic Pro. As such, I've decided to release a slightly upgraded version of the demo as the final product (of the FPSC version).

The Story
You are a paratrooper of the United States Army. You and a squad were sent on a top secret mission from the OSS - to investigate strange and disturbing rumors that the Nazis are meddling with super natural powers.

Unfortunately, before your team could make the jump, your plane was spotted by an anti-aircraft unit. After crashing into a nearby forest, enemy soldiers found you and another squad mate injured, the rest dead. You were both taken to a prison near a small village teeming with enemy activity...

Gameplay
After escaping the prison, you will have to navigate a short segment through the German town (featured in the demo). After that, you will enter the catacombs, which will feature an abundance of super-natural enemies. Eventually you will find your way to a German military base where they've developed strange creatures and machines for war.

Yes, it's basically my version of Return to Castle Wolfenstien.

Praise
"The level design was good and the appearance of more soldiers and doors opening after certain things was a nice touch." - Nickydude (Creator of He is coming...)
"This was in terms of Level Design one of the best FPSC games I´ve ever played" - Ertlov (Creator of Anderson & The Legacy of Cthulhu)
"I was really impressed with the level design." - Cardboard Box
"I think it was geat. Level design was great. Enemy placement was great, great, great, great!" - Metal Devil123
"Incredible, even though I died. A lot." - Tempest

The images look pretty good. I would suggest adding some more trash around the floor, papers and such.

Screens look really good, the idea isn't the most original, nor is many of ours, but I think it could turn out to be a good one.

Story is very similiar to Outpost (movie) except it changes to different during the game. And I can't download. The file has been removed to somewhere. I don't remember.

Quite entertaining

PLUS:
- positioning and scripting of the soldiers didnt make the AI look too dumb. Good use of spawns.
- completely lag-free
- nice winter setting including skybox
- hiding health/ammo stuff (not to hard to find but not too obvious either)

MINUS
- could have used a bit more color contrast and dynamic lights

In case you find my grammar and spelling weird ---> native German speaker ^^

How do you make, that enemies just followthe waypoint once, and stop. My enemies just keep going back and forth all the time.

It's a fairly simple modification of a script. Simply look at any existing script with waypoints, and look at the waypoint code carefully. You should see "waypointreverse" on a line. That line is basically saying that the character should turn around and repeat his course. Removing this will cause the characters to stop moving once they hit the end of the waypoint path.

Thanks for the comments! For awhile I was about to work on this again, but I don't think it will be possible sadly - too much going on in real life and I already have more projects than I can probably finish

Such as that 2D side-scrolling RTS game I always anticipated but never got to hear of any more progress since I first left IndieGameDev.net, then rejoined without remembering it un-till now...

Hehe...yea, started up my last compile of March to War the other day, still needs a lot of work. I wish I had more inspiration for it

EDIT: Removed third screenshot. Seems silly to limit it with thumbnails but I ain't the boss

I don't know anything about scripting or anything else. How do you mod a script?

And you couldn't use the edit button to turn from fan to jerk?

Seriously, if you don't think it's special, don't use sarcasm (and you most certainly don't need to double post). A lot of people do like the level layout and considering this was almost soley to test out 115 (I had been using 107 up to that point) I think I did a pretty good job.

There are many sound tutorials in the scripting section - I believe at least a few are stickies. I haven't really gone over them (I figured most of this out with the EA version
) but I think Plystire's are probably the best given his experience with the source code.

Once you get the concept of conditions and actions in your head, it's probably the easiest scripting language you'll ever use

Jeez, with this kinda feedback, I may have to sit down and work on it again. Of course, with the new Wolfenstein arriving in the mail in a few days, inspiration shouldn't be hard to come by - although time is another story.

Even if I do continue the concept it'll probably be through DBPro though - after all my latest modding experience even the old Wolfenstein 3D feels like it has more doors waiting to be opened
