okay the overall atmospere was
very convincing and gave the whole level a haunted/ posessed feel that made me feel uneasy.
the walking figure that appears
and then disappears made me jump. the slow movement gave the game
a mythically slow pace, however that effect that makes you faster and distorts the camera was
very well paced and totally unexpected which
was another unexpected jump. the only thing i think you could lower is the gore level as more often than not
small scattered scenes of violence make for a more effective scene rather than permanent blood and guts.
eg. lots of darks hallways, some blood in
spots but that makes for a well paced scare when you are confroted by a corpse, of course in SH 4 it would
most likely make you take a key outta
their guts or something. and the barrels, pipes and doors
are way to shiney and that door at the start should mabey
just be a use door instead of having to use the switch right next to it.
anyway there are my comments and heres some ratings
antisipation for a scare--10/10
The overall atmosphere was good and the fog fitted in well. Not too heavy, not too saturated, just perfect.
Also, there seemed to be some bug with the large barrel in the room at the very start, it looked like vertex lighting.
One of the doors in the start was mirrored, so the text was backwards.
The super-reflective barrels were very out of place and had a negative impact in terms of immersion.
It doesn't make sense that some barrels (the M3 ones) were static and shadowed,
while some where constantly illuminated and looked very wet.
The FOV-distortion was a great effect, though it was used in an
odd place, it didn't make much sense to me why the player
character would be scared/had his heart pounding heavily
when there was seemingly nothing scary in sight.
It was a good demonstration though and I imagine it would
work quiet well if used in the right place at the right time.
The teleportation moment had me surprised, it was very unexpected.
And the swedish newspaper on the floor was fun too, for me at least, lol.
I think BVG previously pointed out what some of the headlines meant and such.
Pretty professional looking stuff, although some shaders (on say, the barrels)
looked very out-of-place and actually subtracted from the atmosphere.
Can't say it was all that scary for me,
but perhaps that is from playing too much FEAR...
