I'm wandering if there are any sites around that help with game console creation, not from scratch but from pre-built kits (mainly because i only have a little experience with electronics.
I've found the XgameStation but this comes prebuilt, as far as i know.
Any links or help on how to get started would be appreciated. Especially if they come from someone who has had experience with such a hobby.

The only other that I know of is the fuzebox and from what I understand it does not come prebuilt, although I have no experience with it myself.

The xgamestation appears to come in a kit form, ready for you to build.
Check the first two products on this page: http://www.xgamestation.com/browse_products.php?category=2

http://dcemulation.org/

They might offer some possible leads. It was primarily a site for Dreamcast stuff, game kits and emulations, but they might have other stuff.

I've done some PIC programming myself, unfortunately I've been able to get to electronics for the last couple of years. Although I've been thinking of getting my hands dirty next week. Thanks for the tip! :-P

There are some great projects (relatively easy and cheap) here:
http://www.rickard.gunee.com/projects/video/pic/pong.php

They are all black and white. I've been using some color generation chips from Motorola (really old, not available anymore AFAIK), but the only one I had got burned (I applied power to the wrong pin, hehehe).

The DIY kit from XGameStation is based on the SX28 chip from Parallax, and I know for sure you can buy all separate components for at least 1/3 of the price. I always wanted to play with the SX28, but there's no way I can buy them from here, about $40 of shipping cost...

[edit: That fuzebox project seems really nice]
