This is the first multiplayer release for S.M.I.L.E. industries. The version available for download now is an Early Adopters version- a beta, if you will- of the 1 on 1 map made for the "Subject Interactivity" program. Please bare in mind that I haven't been able to put much into the presentation, so expect generic menus and stock textures on weapons, etc. However, the map is in a final state, (except for the crate textures) so the actual gameplay should be spot on. If I have one regret, it's that only one weapon made it into the beta release, as I didn't want to compromise the balance by throwing in a bunch of random weapons. Most importantly, THIS RELEASE DOES NOT REFLECT THE FINAL QUALITY OF S.M.I.L.E. INDUSTRIES OR ANY FUTURE RELEASES. I wanted to get it out the door so I could be playing games and getting feedback by tommorrow, as I've already spent too much time tweaking it and fussing over it. So without furter ado, I give you...

Version 2 of beta has been released! Link below.

http://files.filefront.com/13332549 (V2.0)

Please leave C+C and let me know of any problems. Enjoy!

...and on the seventh day, Pus rested.

I just visited your site and checked out the screenshots, and I absolutely love the humor. The graphics definitely need some work though, all the environments look the same, and many of the assets look pretty bland. Those crates, for instance. Check out all the different textures in Portal, and you'll notice that they pack a ton of detail in there, while retaining that "clean" look. I suggest making maybe some padded segments, possibly padding different parts of your environment, like corners, etc, for some extra geometry and detail.

Maybe even add some propaganda - esque posters depicting ecstatic looking subjects in horrible situations, like maybe a guy with a gun to his head, but with a gigantic smile on his face. Beneath it, it could say "S.M.I.L.E.!".

And if you really wanna pull this off and make it awesome, you could possibly make the website to seem like a real corporate website. You know, web 2.0, etc, but show signs of corruption, kinda like an A.I. was there. Maybe you can get some inspiration from "I Love Bees", if you know what that is/was.

*sigh*, I dunno what's going on anymore, everytime I try to play this or Emergence: Infiltration, my game looks like this http://img382.imageshack.us/img382/4693/lololhh1.jpg

Anyone got an idea on what's going on? I doubt anyone else has this problem.

Anyone wanna play?

Quote: "The graphics definitely need some work though, all the environments look the same, and many of the assets look pretty bland."

Yeah, I know. I'm still building up my assets and those used in this map were made pretty early on. I'm experimenting with different colours and lighting methods, stuff like that. Blandness is one of my biggest concerns about the game and I'm doing everything in my power to ensure the end result is something attractive, but with the austere aesthetic in mind. As for the crates, like I said, I'm gonna spend some time making a proper texture. I am annoyed with myself for releasing the game with those crates in it; but it's a beta, so no ahrm done really. But yes, the new textures will be much better for the crates.

Oh, I like that idea! And they could be different colours to really make them flourish and bring out the contours of the room more.

Oh, I've built up a big library full of them! Hell, that's probably where a lot of the game's humour comes from!

That's the angle I've been going for, but I guess I haven't done it quite as well as I'd planned. I might go back and make some changes.

Like the humour. The first screen sort of reminded me of something out of Saw.

@ Gamers Gear:

That's a problem with your graphics card. FPSC has an issue with onboard graphics. Did you post in the wrong thread?

@ Pus:

That's good, glad you liked it.

You know what, I'm gonna DL the new MP mod and re-upload this with the new lobby features. I will also add in the shotgun, sniper rifle and replace the blaster with an assault rifle. If all goes smoothly, it should be up by tomorrow.

That FPSCIP. It has lobby system, multiple levels, etc. Check in Product Chat.

Now, I've got the final product, but will upload it tommorrow so I can tear my eyes away from the computer for a while. I'll update the thread when the DL is ready.

The V2 Beta has been released. Download here:

http://files.filefront.com/13332549

If you ever want to play, just post here with a rough idea of when you want to play, or whatever works. Let's actually get some use out of it.

Fixes/changes:
New weapons:
Revolver: powerful weapon for skilled players
Assault Rifle: All-round full-auto weapon with scope. For general use.
Shotgun: powerful spray-shot weapon. Best used at close range for maximum effectiveness.
You will always start with all weapons with plentiful ammo.
Utilises FPSCIP to improve the process of hosting/joining matches.
Can now join mid-game.

Visit FPSCIP thread to see all improvements made by the mod.

Note that this is still only a beta, is subject to change and final multiplayer will be released alongside the main game.

Does anyone want to play? For future reference, I will usually host games at these times:

Monday 5:00pm GMT
Thursday 5:00pm GMT

Oh, and the site url is www.smileindustries.tk

While you're on there, why not join the mailing list. It should keep you up to date with the latest news, often before anyone else.

Hey Pus In Boots, it looks like FileFront is gonna stop hosting files:
http://farewell.filefront.com/

So if you want me to I can host your S.M.I.L.E. Industries games on my server which runs all the time

Not in this download. Check out the S.M.I.L.E. industries thread in the WIP board to find out about the main game. The multiplayer is made more to compliment the single-player; the single-player is the focus. The thread is actually pretty vague in terms of how the game has developed and changed since it was announced, so I couldn't even begin to explain the awesomeness of it to you, but the thread should give you a rough idea of what to expect.

How would that work? Would games be arranged through the site, or just hosted on it?

shoot at all the scripters you want, but remember that it is a sin to kill a programmer.

You would send me the game file (probably .zip), I'll put it on my web server and then give u the download link.
