I've recently purchased portal, completed there now, I heard rumors they're creating a Portal 2, I'd say these sort of genre of 'casual ' games will be the way forward. Giving indie developers like ourselves chances of making it big.

Whats your take on it?

Did you find the cake?

Um yeah Casual games seem to be were the industry is going but, i don't see lengthy games with maybe the latest graphics, a good story and tons of features becoming obsolete as i think there will always be a market for those games, imho, well just from my experience no matter how many free flash games, or casual games i play, i need a good lengthy or atleast with a good story kind of game, once in a while. Though in terms of casual games, the market is growing with Apple iTouch developer kit being released, Xna 3.0 supporting games for the zune, and so on.

thanks for the replies, LD52, i know exactly what you mean. I'm surprised even though most games are free these days i still buy them, probably because they've gotten so cheap heh.

I dunno why but when REALLY good graphics come into it, it's usually not really good game play for me. Either that or I haven't played a good game in a while heh (Portal and half life being the exceptions).

Coldfire, if they put the portal gun into half life I think they'd be too many exploits haha, e.g. when they're chasing you through a small space just place one portal where they will run and watch them fall out of a side of a building lol. Could actually start a new genre 'Ways of Dying/Killing' sort of like Burnout except seeing how much damage you can do with people haha.

My girlfriend was a champ and played through the game. Video games aren't her forte, and she was new to both the first person shooter scene and 3D puzzles like Portal has. It took her a while to even grasp what the portals were doing LOL. It drove her nuts, but I promised her I would buy her a piece of chocolate cake if she beat the game. That was enough motivation for her! I have pics if you want me to post them
