Other than a software setting, the mouse could be faulty and it's picking up mechanical bounce in the micro switch, hence reading more than one click.

It doesn't sound like such behaviour to me although it could be a badly written keylogger leaking back into the datastream.

What good is knowledge without a degree of understanding?
