It's out of order, but being completely fair to Bale, we don't know
exactly what happened. By the sounds of it the director of photography did something retarded - but at the same time, we don't know how many times they've tried the take etc.
EDIT:
Quote: "Bruce Franklin said it was an isolated incident. "If you are working in a very intense scene and someone takes you out of your groove...It was the most emotional scene in the movie," said Franklin. "And for him to get stopped in the middle of it. He is very intensely involved in his character. He didn't walk around like that all day long. It was just a moment and it passed.""
It's unprofessional, yeah, but by the sounds of it he had pretty good reason to flip out. I'm not condoning what he did, but I can kind of understand why he got so twisted out of shape.
I'm not claiming to be some Hollywood actor or something, but having just done my final piece for A2 theatre studies, I've got to say it does get incredibly irritating when people knock you out of the 'zone' when you're trying to concentrate - especially on scenes that are difficult (either practically or emotionally). Heck, I only did a 35 minute final piece, and I was exhausted after that - I can imagine that Bale probably had tons of takes and probably started early in the morning to boot. It screws people up, take it from me

He's British. That should explain it all
