Hey all, I'm working on a project, and it's important to have document collaboration. I'm stuck as to what the best solution would be. I'm looking for an open source php/perl/python web solution that takes advantage of diff and can be used for documents, to aide in editing and collaberating on documents that can be read and edited online, and uses an authentication (login) permission based system.

Any ideas?

(also, i forgot to change the topic name, sorry for the most useless topic name ever)

For document collaboration I use Windows Meeting Space, although it obviously doesn't allow it to be read/edited online, just any staff member at the meeting sends the file to every person attending with the click of a button, and from thereon, everyone can edit the file live.

Obviously WMS doesn't use an online auth system either, you just open the "invitation file" for each meeting and you get added to the meeting automatically, so it still is private, but a hassle to get all the invitations out if you're hosting the meeting.

Oh and just to rub it in... great topic name!

Use Google docs, it fits you description perfectly.

The thought crossed my mind to use google docs, but you can't leave notes about the revision, as far as I can tell. It's also not immediately apparent where the correction/change is made.

Meeting Space doesn't meet any of the requirements I need

I'm heavily leaning toward using MediaWiki or something similar, since I believe it'll show a diff output (red text on changes) and you can leave notes about changes, but I was wondering if there was other options.

Hi, have you tried projectplace?

http://www.projectplace.com/Products-and-Services/

The free "version" is limited to 3 users, but otherwise functional.

Hmm that's a good question. There are several tools available for one or two of your specs, but I've never seen a package for it all (diffing, etc.)

I would probably go with MediaWiki too, but unfortunately you have to deal with doing everything in wikiscript
