Hey all,

I just wanted to ask your opinions on notebook computers lately. I had planned to get a new computer around June, but it seems more and more, I need more memory,(Ram), as I am running higher end programs.

Right now, i have a

Dell Inspiron 6400
intel core 2 duo (1.83 ghz)
2 GB ram
256 mb video card
120 GB 7200 RPM hd
15.4 inch display

I've had this laptop a couple years and have never had a problem with it physically. (hasn't broken). My friends are telling me to go with Hp or Toshiba, but Im not sure. I only have somewhere around 800 US dollars. Has anyone seen a good deal, or have a reason to stay with or leave Dell?

I've got a Lenovo t61p

Intel Core 2 Duo, 2x 2.6ghz
4gb Ram
Nvidia Quadro 570M

Not built for gaming, but it hasn't had a problem with any game I've thrown at it (But I haven't tried games like Crysis or anything)

I love it, it's a very solid machine.

oh I just saw your price... Guess it helps to read the entire post, eh?

Umm, I've only heard good things about Dell laptops from my friends who own them, so I wouldn't see any reason for you not to get another if you like yours.

Your mother has been erased by a mod because it's larger than 600x120

Gret deal only a bit out of your range. I have the same one just without blu ray and it has worked well for me.

I saw this the other day at Best Buy, and boy is it a beautifully built laptop, with great specs for the price: http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/laptop-studio-xps-13?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

I think you should just keep saving and get a good computer that will last then try to get a computer for $800 because now days you can't get a good computer for that price (not one good for programming/modeling/gaming) Unless you absolutely need it.

If you can afford it, it may be worth it to add the 8600M GS to it.

Ah yes. I will, because Im getting it with the minimal operating system, so I can save 99 bucks.

(I have Xp pro and Vista Ultimate already, so I dont really care for it.)

EDIT: Also changing HD to the smaller run with 7200 rpm, i dont want 5400, and they are both the same price...

Seems pretty good, the 8600 only has 256 mb though. I still think the one I posted is the best bang for the buck, but whatever fits your budget and meets your needs is what you should get.

Actually you're mistaken, that's a laptop, not a baby.

Toshiba have some decent laptops for sale, i've had a few problems with mine but it was pretty powerful when i had it, you might want to take a look at them.
All this Acer bashing (not in this thread) needs to stop, i've had several Acer products in the past (especially monitors) and have never had a problem with any of them. My favourite, long lasting monitor was a cheap Acer monitor i bought for a dual setup, it soon became my main monitor and i didn't look back for a good two years. Now i'm just stuck with a stupid 19" LG HD monitor i also use for gaming, shame that...
