I was a huge grunge fan, still am. But I never cared much for Nirvana. Don't hate it, don't love it. But I did have a friend who really like Nirvana. One morning his sister walks in his room and says: "happy birthday, oh by the way, kurt cobain is dead" and then closed his door. He was not a happy birthday boy.
Never liked Greenday, but I could tolerate them up until the album after Dookie. And it really bugs me when people say they're punk rock.

It's usually drugs.
Favorite songs:
Nutshell - alice in chains (awesome album altogether)
hunger strike - temple of the dog (another awesome album)
comfortably numb - pink floyd
fake plastic trees - radiohead
Can't decide on which pearl jam song I like best.
I have other all-time favorites, but can't recall what they are right now.
As far as innovative bands go, I hear so many songs that seem to have roots from david bowie's music. Now he's a legend, the world just copies him. Speaking of Bowie, anyone ever seen that video where he sings with Mr. Rogers?
First time I heard Kings of Leon (on The Tonight show I think), I hated them. But the more I listen to "sex on fire", the more I like the song.
I still listen to a lot of rock, but the past year or so I've been getting into more urban beat type stuff, and I hate hip hop.
For all of us who think we're becoming "old hippies", I realized I've become the old guy the day I noticed I don't like mainstream rock and found a Buick an attractive car. It's a depressing feeling when I skate with a bunch of high-schoolers all the time.
