@Josh - The tat looks like something my sister has as well. Good luck with doing that, too! Interested to see the results haha.

That crazy wheel language Dr. Who thing is pretty cool. Can't say I'm into Dr. Who that much, but no doubt my girlfriend would be able to spot it from a mile off.

@Agent - Hey man, thanks for the the kind words. Jumper is a game that a few friends and I have been working on, very slowly, for a few years now. We do have a prototype somewhere on the web I believe, but it isn't really ready to show the world yet. It's one of those projects where we want to really get it right, and that means putting in a lot more time than we collectively have at the moment!

With your platform game, wat did you have in mind? I have a few contracts happening at the moment, so spare time isn't easy to come by, but I'm always interested in working on cool projects

So here's a scribble of my girlfriend's name in Gallifrey...def needs a bit of clean up work lol.

Once I've got it down on paper, it's actually easier to get a clean vector made.

I like the textured look you have with the vibrant choice of colours Greenlig, very nice

2blackbar, that's some great work! - Really I'd say that's more freelance/pro quality, I'm sure there's a good few coders here (esp AppGameKit section) who'd jump at the chance to work with you.

Superb work as always Greenlig. Are you planning on making your jumper game in AppGameKit? I really hope to see it developed, your style is awesome.

I'd love to get some of your work in one or two of the games I'm working on

Looks good Moondog! ...but I'd prefer it without these background stripes

I haven't contributed in a while! Here is a more recent picture:

Title: I can see through you.

I find it came out pretty eeriee. The original has reflective paint on it with the title on it that you can only read depending on how the light falls on it.
Its loosely based on a movie that I found really inspiring.

I really need to see Stalker. Have wanted to for a while now.

@Bax - We were intially making Jumper in Unity, but it's been put aside for the moment because a few of the guys are too busy at the moment. AGK's lack of HTML5 is a bit of a pain, as Unity allows us to build for the webplayer. That said, I really would like to go back to AppGameKit, as I have two very cool unfinished projects sitting there. Also, I'd love to work on something with a few community members. A cool 2D game? We could smash something awesome out

Its not an "easy" movie. Nothing to entertain One of these films I recommend to watch late at night whenever you can't sleep. Truely mezmerizing then

Neat work josh! I appreciate that you did not remove the sketch "construction" "bones"...whatever the english word is. Its always interesting to see how other artists build their pictures. There is always something new to learn and you are good with anatomy.

Thank you! I'd mail you a print if I could find a decent way to scan it in without artifacts and distortions

@Greenlig : I wonder: is there some sort of 2D lighting engine at work or are you actually this great with light and shadow? Your 30 minutes speed painting have a greater sense of depht than some of my 3D work.

It's a sign of a great artist, being able to know how the lighting should act, too many artists just guess or don't consider it enough.

I think though, that these days lighting is something that people are taking for granted - most big games have great lighting, shadows, shaders, and it's hard to distinguish good lighting from bad with 3D these days. It's like when lighting get's too realistic, we loose the atmosphere that a simple coloured spotlight can create. I hope Fallout4 for example doesn't go too far with new lighting techniques - I think the atmosphere would suffer a great deal.
At least with traditional 2D painting, the lighting still plays it's part, it takes the same skills that it always has.

Thanks Wolf, that's a lovely thing to say I think a big part of it comes down to understanding how light interacts with surfaces. If there's a strong light hitting a surface, that light will bounce, taking some of that surface's colour with it. If you do it enough, you barely need to think about it anymore, you just do it.

Haha, I have typed out a heap of different things here now and erased them because I don't want to dribble on. The bottom line - lights and shadows need colour, and that colour will bounce.

Hello all, I've been doing a ton of pixel art lately. I've started doing the monsters [as they would appear in-battle] for a role-playing project I'm working on here and there. Now, this style of pixel art is relatively new to me. I'm used to doing sprites and tiles etc. not usually the monsters themselves. That being said, what I'm asking for is feedback; criticism, etc.

I've attached the most recent monsters as they would appear in-battle, scaled up. Let me know what you think, any help is appreciated. Thanks!

-Dan

EDIT: Just noticed the loss of resolution, ehh.. Hopefully you get the idea.

I need to practice this! I love the play of light in your digital artworks and perhaps one day I can do something similar with oil colors.

Nice work xCatalyst, some great pixel pushing there.

Although... I think I'd like to see what you can do with a restricted palette though - for me I always prefer the look of a restricted palette and drawing with one as well. I think it leaves a gap for our brains to fill in when less shades are used. Probably doesn't make much sense (been a long week). But for example, if you look at a Bitmap Brothers 16-bit game - those guys had all the best graphics in the early 90's, even nowadays their games still look good - but zoom in close and a lot of the graphics just look like a mess, especially with all the stippling.

So I guess I'm saying that's some awesome pixel work, but I think it would look even better with just 16 colours per sprite, or something like that. I think you'd enjoy the challenge too
