Hello all this here is for the new people wishing to learn more

This thread is the main discussion area and other threads will be made for each individual project

You may know this group from the DBC forum but this is for those who wish to specifically use DBP

Entry Challenge

If you dont use DBP and want to do art or sound for these projects let me know and provide a sample of your current work and i will get back to you about it..

To enter into this group you must show some aptitude on the basics of DBP, your entry must include -

* Basic Text (input, output)
* Basic 2d (line, dot, circle)
* Basic Sprites (rotate, offset)
* Basic 3d (cube, sphere, .x)
* Basic 3d Transform (position object, rotate object)

try your best to display atleast one of the options in each of the brackets, if you need any help with this just ask and somebody will be straight on to it..

Project1

Strikers 1945 Remake

I'm sure most of you have played this game and enjoyed it, if not its a vertical scrolling plane shooting game set in WWII with some advanced planes flying around for that Time lol!, the aim of the game is not to get killed but kill the enemies and earn as much points as possible, you even get weapon enhancements with bonuses dropped...

Recent News
09/04/09 - Rudolpho has added in the ability for the enemy planes to chenge direction closer to you, but when they are grouped they will disperse.

08/04/09 - Kira Vakaan has added in new types for each weapon including a rate of fire, Kira has also changed the exit button on the main menu come up with a confirmation box..

04/04/09 - Rudolpho has made a sample song for the game
Quote: "
Well, I've been giving it some thinkering and came up with an idea for a background track in the style I interpreted as being desired.
You can download a sample here and then tell me whether I'm completely off
Note that it is just a sample (that is, it's not completed) and rather unmastered. I was trying for some sort of oldish arcade-styled genre here, tell me what you think

If I wasn't on Omen, I might be interested. In any case, I'm posting a basic GUI system up on the snippets, it's really simple and I think I commented every function... It's sloppy but modular. You guys are free to use it. You probably wouldn't need it but it's a good example of logic, collision, and when to use different imaging commands to get things to display right.

Ashingda 27:
your example is structured really well and produces everything asked for..

z i l c h vortex:
I am getting an undefined parser error for some reason, i usually only get that error when i am running a program through the editor.

It seems well laid out and uses all the commads appropriate..

I will have my example up shortly except my internet isnt working right and i have to use a different comuter because my lappie is overheating...

the bouncing took a bit to work out...

the functions a good one, thanks Ashingda you sortof helped with that one

controls:
*arowkeys move the camera
*space make the cube bounce

alright so what should we be making first, i believe that maybe we should start by using the text functions only to make a fun game...

if anybody else wants to join your still welcome...

p.s. i dont think im qualified to be the co-ordinator is there someone more experienced willing to standin and maybe i can be co-cordinator.....

I could take over, if it's okay with everyone. I'm getting into DbPro (got it for my b-day) and have been in one finished DarkNOOBS (DBC) project, plus the current one.

Just out of curiosity, how are you coordinating this then?
Write some sort of interface and let each user work on self-contained modules, or some other way?

We decide on a game by:

1. We each post a working example of what we'll like for our upcomming project. There should be a deadline (1-3 weeks or so)

2. We take a vote on which to do. If you don't submit in time it's too bad.

3. The winner of the vote will manage the project or if they dont want to, have someone else so it.

As for task assignments we can just volunteer, if there are none then it's up to the manager to assign to members or take it up themself.

Like lucifer said we should start simple, but an all text game is rather too simple I'd say. Ohh well we'll have the vote decide.

If anyone has different ideas or opinions about what I just stated just voice it out, I'm always open to new thoughts.

@Quirkyjim
You'll have to post an entry to join this group hehe...

[EDIT]
Here's a though, when we make a project why don't we just recreate an existing game. We'll do everything as close as we can to it's original. This should cut down the time it takes to finnish the project as we wouldn't have to think up anything new.

Only thing is, we must create everything from scratch, that includes the images and sounds as well.

Quote: "I mean what game shall we make a remake of if we do make one."

It's your pick.

Quote: "Not a remake, an original game."

Since our goal is just to learn and improve your skills we dont have to be original. We can simply use an existing game and learn from it. This way the project can also be completed faster and we can go through more projects in a shorter amount of time.

When picking what games to choose from, think something a little older something along the line of GameBoy/NES/SNES or other oldschool PC games. Even if you're a bit more experiened, we as a team we are still new.

I like FPS, RPG, RTS, Turn Based Strategy, Fighting games, Adventure Games. Hmm the only games I don't like are sports games, and driving games. But I wouldn't mind coding a driving game.

@z i l c h vortex:
Nice art, what program do you use?

@lucifer 1101:
Shouldn't we just use this thread? Just use the Edit on the first post to keep the project's progress up to date?

@Everyone:
I'm down for a top-scrolling shooter. 1942 was loads of fun for the NES and should be more to try to re-create it. But I suggest that we keep this simple. I also think we should write a tutorial as we work on the project so other readers can benefit the most.

so,
Are we going to be following any specific coding conventions?
Any specific file formats, ei. only '.png', '.mp3'?

Some things we will need to get started are:
An Original P-38 Lightning sprite. - for the player object
A scrollable background.

We will eventually need:
Some Sprites for the enemies.
Some Sprites for bullets.
Some Sprites for explosions.
Sounds for explosions.

EDIT: I uploaded my entry project as an .exe in a .rar

I think we should make all original art though. Is that not what you had in mind?

Alright I've been throwing together some psuedocode/comments for the program. Just to give you all an idea of what I'm thinking for this:

Each line is a step, and each of the indented portions are just broken down steps to the parent step. Each of which should be broken down further until the actual code is placed there instead.

I'm open to suggestions.

EDIT: sorry made some adjustments...
