I have a 320GB SATA HD that someone gave me that originally went in a external enclosure. Well, the enclosure broke and I need to buy a new enclosure for it but I've been looking and they sell 3.5" ones but I measured my drive and it is 4" wide! Will it fit in a 3.5" enclosure?

There's no such thing as a 4 in wide hard drive (unless we're talking about pre-pc). Did you measure it long-ways? You need to measure it from left to right, or, the shorter of length and width. Sounds like you might have a 2.5 in drive.

No, I measured the width, not the length or thickness. I attatched a pic. It is also the same width of a standard IDE HD, if that helps...

Are you going to use it as an external drive? You could try something like this:

that's a standard 3.5" drive. with enclosure, they are 4" wide. so, yes, they fit in standard "3.5 inch external enclosures".

Well how weird is that! Guess I never actually measured a drive, always assumed 3.5in drives were 3.5 in in width.
