Does anyone know of a good FPS Engine with scriptable multiplayer I could look into? Thanks

We need more information than "good FPS engine". What kind exactly are you looking for? Arcade? Realistic? What style? What do you want to be able to do with it? Two that come to mind are ArmA and Source.

Ah sorry, I should've known that. More realistic I suppose, and um... for style... I don't know, what do you refer to by style?

I'll check out ArmA, and Ive been thinking about Source

I mean details like what time period? Sci fi? Modern? WWII? ArmA has a great modding system, but the very crappy AI and pathfinding holds it back. I've never actually tried Source, but I've heard it's great. I'm getting Garry's Mod soon hopefully .

Ah yes, figured, either modern or sci fi, I suppose anything that has a good lighting system, perhaps dynamic lights and shadows

The Quake3 source was GPL'd a long time ago. If you're willing to spend more than a little time reading it to understand it, you have a very powerful and flexible engine right there.

Surely FPS engines don't have a preset "style" the developers would need to conform to.

---

I would suggest making a Source or UT3 mod.

Graphically many of them do, and there are many core gameplay mechanics that cannot be changed.

The structure of the level designers vary too. Quake uses a block system, Gamebryo uses segments for quick snapping together of complex areas...

No idea about UT3 or Source, never used them.

I want to try source, but I lack a source game right now

Well that's the thing. When you buy a game engine, you fit it with your own assets, and it can look completely different than other games if that's your wish. I don't understand how a game engine can be styled for a certain type of game i.e. WW2, gothic, etc. Those are assets that you can change. There's no way you'd want to use the stock assets

I have seen Quake mods that couldn't look more different from Quake, quite simply amazing transformations with the engine. If you didn't know it you would never guess it was made with the Quake 2 engine.

I know a while back somebody made a good looking bond game with the quake2 engine, it was quite impressive

007 Nightfire was made with Quake 2.

Your signature has been erased by a mod because it's larger than 600x120

Nice, I wasn't even talking about that, just an independent developer

The PC version of Nightfire was made with a heavily modified version of the Gold Source engine (The Half Life engine).

And GoldSrc is built on QuakeWorld/Quake II

Wow, offtopic people :S

And i would suggest First person shooter creator that nobody calls it or FPSC

Its good for beginners too and can be used by pro's too by scripting with the built in script editor.
