Hahahahah! I've got a funny story to lighten your day. This is at my high school, which is small, with about 200 people.

One day a few weeks ago, the bell rang like usual to start the period. It normally rings 3 times. Ding, ding, ding! But this time it was more like: ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding! I thought, "The office ladies must've had too much coffee! Lol!" Then the bell rang 20 times at random moments through the period.

The office said over the PA, "we're having problems with the bell system, so we're going to turn it off and use an alternate system. The bell will sound a little different now."

So at the end of 6th period, we heard a telephone ring over the intercom! It sounded like they were turning on the pa and holding a ringing phone next to it. Hahahahahaha! I love small schools!

So we've had the new phone bell system for a while now. They didn't get to fixing it over spring break, so we still have it. And today, the phone bell system started acting up. It started ringing, but it didn't stop for 10 minutes! Ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring!

The office: "Go to your 3rd period class. This is not a fire drill."

Hahahahahahahahaha! I laughed very hard! It was hilarious!

Anyways, had to share that with you!

My school has a firebell system made with sirens that sound like someone strangling a dolphin. The sound is really horrible!

I think that story is more likely one of those things that are more funny in real life than on the internet. But glad you had fun I guess.

Kaedroho, they did the same thing here in Uttoxeter. Bloody horrible, gives some poor sods migranes it's so unnecessarily loud and high pitched not to mention the old duffers who served as teachers could barely hear it. There was nothing wrong with normal bells. The buzzers are still there I think but as I haven't been in best part of a year it's hard to say.

Did you know that School was invented so that the electric bell could be put to good use.
This is a little known fact which most people don't know.

Lol. Yep. After the phone bell kept ringing for 10 minutes, they then started just saying, "This is the bell! Ringalingalingaling!" At the end of one period, the intercom came on with her saying just, "ringringringringringring!" It scared us!

For the last few periods they turned on the intercom and rang what sounded like a cowbell.

One intercom that needs no more cowbell.

@Keo
you make it sound like all intercoms have a "cowbell" dial
maybe thats what was wrong with it, not enough cowbell.

I don't mind it, we used to have the normal fire bells which I hated, but we have the buzzers and the foghorn-looking things now lol and they don't deafen you .

My high school had a loud deep buzzer sound, not bell-like in any form. Was certainly less shocking.

My school bell is similar to what Jeku had--it's a very low-pitched, very loud humming sound that goes on for about 15 seconds, and since we have classes ending every 5-10 minutes, it goes off about a dozen times every class.

We don't even have a "school bell", don't really see why we would need one.

I like ours, it plays some simple songs, the bell hitting each note at the start of the day. A few rings to let you know a period is over, and then another song at the end of the day, slightly different. Although, Ive been in MCAS this week (Mass. Comprehensive assessment system) and the bells are really annoying when your not waiting for them.

I wish I had access to board 17.
