Hi,

I wanted to challenge myself to make a game in 30 minutes. I managed to complete what I would call a basic game, called Cube Jumper.

I would like you feedback in it, if that is ok.

How to play:

1. Go to http://www.breeze-wars.com/CubeJumper
2. Right click the game and choose Go Fullscreen (if you wish)

You need to try and get to the other side of the level.

Thanks,
Rich Bosworth

p.s. if this is not an acceptable thread, please feel free to lock it

Incredibly infuriating, mainly due to the camera. It was impossible to judge the jumps properly, because I could never see both the ground I was on, and my target at the same time unless I put the camera at an odd angle.

I recommend:

* Ridding of the time limit. If you remove this, then it's slightly more forgivable that each jump takes a bit of 'work' to do. If you don't, it becomes frustrating

OR

* Just change the camera somehow. First person (as it is) adds nothing to the experience. I think the main problem is the camera sensitivity/twitchiness that is hard to adjust to and use effectively when you first start

EDIT:

Also:

* The starting green 'thing' is far too large compared to camera height. Its purpose is also rather unexplained too - is it necessary to see this?

* There is no feedback to tell you whether the powerup has been acquired

* There is no way to know whether a powerup is still active

* Is there supposed to be another powerup on Level 2? (i.e. there a second one, is it supposed to be there?)

* What the heck @ the ramp on level!? 2

Obnoxiously hard. Platform games should be 3rd person. The character jumps to high, and not far enough.

Repeats of what the other two said. Falling off or missing those platforms is frustrating, it's hard to judge jumping and jumping distance and all that. Although for a 30 minute production online game it is pretty well done, just needs all the polishing.

It might be easier if I had some feet to look at

Nab the third person controller from the Lerpz tutorial, it might be a bit better to use. The main problem is that you need to see where you're landing, usually feet, a character or a shadow do the trick.

You can't control yourself in the air, which makes things difficult.

You can't see anything to give an idea of where you are.

Sometimes you jump really far, sometimes not far at all.

The green starting thing is a bit odd.

The trampoline on level 2 is impossible to use to control where you go.

No, but it's common in platformers. Otherwise things are ridiculously difficult.

Oh yeah, and you need to fix the mouse to the center of the flash game and add a way to pause.

As said above some way of controlling the movement mid-air is a must.

I think I want to try and keep it First Person. I don't want it to be like every other platformer in every way. I'll give more reference points, and feet though.

La la la I'm a moron la la la

Feet are a must, because I keep going to jump only to find I've already fallen off.
