If it was that obvious, would you need to ask?

I think they're probably equivalent.

If I were to guess, I'd say the Intel processors would last longer as they run cooler and use less electricity.

That said, intel processors have a 3 year warranty, and I'm sure AMD processors have a similar warranty. I'd just buy the one that does what you want.

Well, do what jerico2day said, but if you want to know, I have an old win95 computer with an original Intel Pentium 1 in it, and its still running great after 12 years of classic games.

But somebody said this:
Quote: "Okay for starters, DO NOT LISTEN TO 'WIZTEK'!. The 'Phenom II' processors are better chips that the intel ones. Intel chips are overclocked when you buy them, which in turn makes them run at a higher heat, causing them to not last as long as an AMD chip. I have been with AMD for the past 8 years and i have never had a problem with one. But i hear numerous stories from intel users who complain about there system failing all the time. :S"

Is it true??? I found that on yahoo answers.

Quote: "If I were to guess, I'd say the Intel processors would last longer as they run cooler and use less electricity."

That is not true! Intel CPUs need a lot of power supply!

Lol. totally made up and selective reasoning.

Get whichever one you want based on price vs performance. Use tomshardware charts to figure out the best processor.

Both intel or amd chips if not overclocked will last pretty much forever barring any major malfunction from any other part on your computer.

I'd say it boils down to this; if you want something portable and low power, go Intel. If you want something mid range that offers good "bang for the buck", go AMD. If you want the absolute bleeding edge for some reason, go Intel.

Well which one is faster? The AMD Phenom 9550 Quad Core or the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600?

Actually none are better than the others. They all have there downsides, and good sides. Just go with your personal opinion.

Not really, while the Phenom II is a very good processor, the i7 is more powerful (and more expensive, so it really depends on your needs and budget, for example the i7 only supports DDR3 ram memories, but what I know the Phenom II might also do that... anyway, my point is that the i7 is at the moment more powerful, but also more expensive and so).

Will somebody answer my question? Which one is faster at games like FPSCX10, FPSCX9, Crysis, Fear, Fear 2, Far cry 2, etc. The AMD Phenom 9550 Quad Core? Or the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600?

Well, it kind of depends on how you have everything set up...

Why can't somebody give me a straight answer?!?! Which one will be faster at gaming? AMD Phenom 9550 Quad Core? Or the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600?!?!?

You're pretty demanding, aren't you?

Read the posts again. You'll notice that most everybody said they're about the same...

Have fun.

Because there is no straight answer. It's like saying "what's faster, a SSC Ultimate Aero or an Elise?" when one will slaughter the straights and the other the corners.

It is complicated. It is not one factor that decided how well those will run, it is a combination of factors, such as RAM, CPU and graphics card. The CPU won´t matter much if your graphics card sucks or you don´t have enough RAM and so on. In either case, both seem to be very good processors, so I don´t think you would suffer from any of them.

Ya' know, Google was invented for a reason. Read product reviews and specs and come up with your own conclusion.

As stated many times, it all depends on what other hardware you have in your computer and what specs those all are.

So we cannot answer this question, because there are too many variables. Jerico summed it up nicely: "Yes and No."

Go for a walk, clear your head and then come back and start doing research using Google. It really is your friend you know.

Why can't some people understand that there's no universally 'better' brand.

Quote: "Which one is faster at games like FPSCX10, FPSCX9, Crysis, Fear, Fear 2, Far cry 2, etc. The AMD Phenom 9550 Quad Core? Or the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600?"

It probably doesn't matter, they will most likely both have sufficient power that they'll let the game run as fast as your graphics card can render it.

The amount of time a processor last is based on how much you use the computer verses how much heat is is subjected to during use, the cooler you keep it the better, cleaner the better as well, regular maintenance on your case can help increase the life of all parts.

But i have a AMD chip that has lasted me over 5 years now.

I want a pc with this specs: Acer Aspire AM5200-E5521A (Refurb) AMD Phenom 9550 Quad Core, 4GB DDR2, 640GB, ATI HD 3650 512MB, Super-Multi DVD±R/RW, Audio, GLAN, Card Reader, Keyboard & Mouse Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. Will it be fast?

Or this will be faster:
Acer AM5620-E5523A (Refurb) Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 + 4GB DDR2 Memory, ATI Radeon HD 3650 512MB DDR3, 640GB HDD, Super-Multi Blu-ray Combo, HD Audio, GLAN , Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit.

I found them at http://www.canadacomputers.com
I saw a video on youtube and it was a test in 4d and the AMD Phenom 9550 was 20% faster the the Intel Core 2 6600. Which one is really faster?

I'd get a dual core and a 4870 (or whatever) instead of a quad core and a 3650. But it's up to you, do you want faster processing speed, encoding and rendering, or do you want better framerates in games?

Dual cores suck and I can't get a 4870 because it takes a lot of power and my house is so old and it sucks because the fuse ALWAYS jumps.

Umm, so if your house is old and can't supply the power for a processor, then why are you shopping...?

Not sure what to say about the fuse...get a surge protector? I dunno..

I don't know how much WATTS the computer has. It doesn't tell. And if a video card need 350 WATTS and a processor need 75, can you just use a standard case supply with no WATTS like in IBUYPOWER?

Uh, that's not how electricity works. All power supplies use Watts. All electricity can be measured in Watts.

Add to that, regarding power consumption, it doesn't matter one way or another how many watts your psu can output, just how much of it is used by the parts in the computer. Get an energy efficient psu, and you'll use less power overall.
