Umm....$60? I hope you mean $600? And yes, $600 could be a decent start. But $60? Can't get much for that...

$60 would get you a nice case and power supply. You could at least turn it on and look at it.

EDIT: Actually, it's only $60 because it's up for bid.

I'll sell you a PC for 60 bucks. It'll have a genuine intel pentium 2 processor overclocked to 400mhz with 32mb of ram and a whopping 2gb hard drive. For 10 bucks more I'll even throw in a 24x cd-rom drive.

Shut up Jerico, you're very misleading.

I'll sell you my monster rig for five australian cents. If you have the cash, I'll even give you the processor, motherboard, hard drive, GPU, and power supply for about $2000.

I would guess that most CPU's become redundant before they fail.

My old, about to be replaced, 8 year old machine has an Intel Pentium 3 in case that's of interest.

Quote: "The amount of time a processor last is based on how much you use the computer verses how much heat is is subjected to during use, the cooler you keep it the better, cleaner the better as well, regular maintenance on your case can help increase the life of all parts."

The only time the case has been cleaned was the time when the GFX card was upgraded (four years ago?) - the chap who did it took one look, told me to stand back and gave the whole thing a good shot of compressed air.

That was quite enough case cleaning and maintenance for me.

Perhaps I'd better take a bit more care of the new machine though.
