There are adverts literally
everywhere on Facebook. And the larger the website, the larger cost justifiable for ad space.
EDIT: Just to clarify, they make advertisers 'bid' on ad space. Advertisers put down an amount to pay per click, and this is submitted as a 'bid' versus the others. The adverts which pay more per click rise to the top and are more likely to be displayed (whereas the others may not be displayed at all)
EDIT2:

Seriously, be grateful. England/Britain has a pretty decent exchange infrastructure - for one thing, it's entirely digital. Compare that to the exchange infrastructure of the US, which has a mishmash of digital and older systems too, along with inconsistent coverage depending on area. In contrast, here in the UK, the countryside is pretty well covered. Oh, and be grateful for the fact you have internet access
at all (and the fact it's broadband). All I hear from you (ever) is just continual whining
