Ive just bought an XFX 8800gt Alpha dog edition, I put it in and fire up my pc then nothing shows up on my monitor. And yes my computer has pci express. It used to have an 8400gt.
Is this a motherboard compatibility issue ?

Thanks for any help !
And if you need more info just tell me.

Doesn't that card use pci-e v2.0?
Or maybe it's compatible with both versions.

Aanyywaay,
Did you connect the 6pin power chord from the PSU? or maybe it was 8pin, but I doubt it.

edit:
PS, don't buy that card if you're not willing to buy a new fan/cooler. That little bastard's a real jet plane. Oh, you already bought it..

Says on the box it can use 'PCI Express x16' :/

Yep. Maybe its my gay motherboard. OR i might need a new powersupply.
EDIT: Could be my jumper settings.

I have a pci-e v2 card in a v1 mobo. Was going to get the alpha dog but they had sold out(little more than a year ago - got a 8800GT512mb ships with oc by gigabyte). Works fine. I didn`t have issues with Vista but a friend did with XP - forgot to uninstall drivers for ati card first - his new one was by nvidia. Did you do that? If your old graphics was AGP(some mobos have both I think) or integrated, did you switch the bios setting from integrated/AGP or maybe even pci to PCI E?

how many Watt does your PSU have ? I think you need minimum 400watt for 8800.

I believe the card itself uses 78watt for stock clock speeds.
But I understand that this wasn't what you meant. 400watt is probably enough. This, however, I would assume to be true in the case that you have either a multiple +12v output at 7.5A each (if there were three such outputs), or simply a +12v rail running at a minimum max range of 20A. (But I know nothing about this.. However, I seem to recall that the card requires a PSU with 20A to function. But I could be wrong.)

Anyway,
* Try the other DVI socket on your card. Maybe, somehow, your computer figured it should output data to that instead of the original.
* Your card might be defect, so test it in a different computer (or several)

On my computer, whenever the graphics card is receiving too little power (when I forgot to plug in the 6- or 8-pin (I always forget what it is)); I get no picture on the screen, and my motherboard makes a beeping sound, like a warning.

I assume you don't get that beep? So it's hard to say.
Though unfortunately most likely.

Ps. I have the same card as you (running a 650W PSU though).

What's funny is, my power supply died, so even though my Geforce 9800 gtx + requires 450W of power, I'm temporarily running it with a 350W supply! I may have noticed a small decrease in the framerate, but other than that it works fine.

LOL! My computer has 250 Watts and my XFX 8800GT Needs 500 Watts.

Well when i dont connect the wires from the graphics card to the power supply it makes that noise but when i do connect them it does nothing, all though it does fire up...

yeah, looks like you will need a £70 power supply like me, mine was 550 watts i think, along with my Radeon 4850 which needs 400 i think, also, double check small stuff like all the correct cables are plugged in, and that when you connect cables together, the colours on the actual wires match

Dude, at £30 you can expect a lot of varied wattage, you may bo to 300 if it is a cheap make, that why i got a really good one, that always gives around 550

30 pounds isn't that cheap of a psu. At least, in the US.
