Shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who's looked at Slashdot today, but I wanted to mention it here. I wonder how this will affect MySql and other things. For anyone who's used Oracle software (front-end, not there database) then you know what terrible UIs they want the world to use.

Haha, just got to say that I first thought you meant that some hippie had purchased the sun (don't ask me how that would have happened)

Well, doesn't sound like too good news to me though.

I'm more concerned about the Sparc Architecture and their hardware and the Solaris operating system as well. Oracle switched out from Solaris ages ago so I don't know if they would keep it around. Sparc is sure to be dead. Fujitsu will pick it up as a novelty I'm sure. It wont affect MySQL since if it did someone would fork it.


Still have to have investor approval beforehand.

I for one do not welcome our new Sun-Oracle overlords!

Ohhhhh... hope this doesn´t strike at, for example, Solaris.
