Hi, does anyone know if this motherboard

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2889

Is compatible with OCZ RAM, 800mhz latency [email protected]?

I have had the motherboard running with RAM that is exactly the same except for the voltage (1.8v).

Shouldn't I be able to overclock the mobo up to 2.1v for the RAM? Everything I have tried so far has just made it crash right after loading windows (ie. right after the green bars and the windows sign, it never gets into Windows proper).

I'm thinking of getting the same mobo. Gigabyte is using very high quality components. Solid state capacitors means its going to have a long life. My last Intel mobo had the elecrolytics and I had to live with a flaky pc for a long time.
About the RAM I think voltage compatibility is very important. Unless the mobo manufacturer specifies that it can handle RAM with different volatges, in which case I don't think it should matter.
Although I've never tried overclocking because it reduces component life. So I don't know much about that part.

If at first you don't succeed, relax. You're like the rest of us.

I have 1.8v ddr2 sockets in my motherboard as well. I also have two 1.8v ddr2 ram modules installed.

However,
When I first put this thing together, the motherboard was clocked to 2v. I donæt know if this was because somebody over at MSI had a little fun with the motherboard before they shipped it, or if it really is 2v, but a misprint in their specifications list made it look like a 1.8v.

At first I didn't notice this, and I got the problem that you described. After I clocked it down to 1.8v it worked flawlessly.

As for your question, I don't know.

Seeing as how my 1.8v sockets were 2.0v when I got it and unwrapped it, I would assume there should be no problem to you overclocking the voltage to 2.1v.
Do make a bit of a research though. For example, at 2.1v the motherboard may not be able to use the ram modules full 800mhz to its advantage. But I don't kno.w

Yeah. It's possible that at higher voltages the shunt capacitance of the bus changes and that changes the latency and other important timing values of the RAM, leading to the crash. Although that would cause a crash at POST. I don't understand why it would happen at Windows startup, unless some important system file is not loading up properly. You could probably find out by booting in Safe Mode.

Well, I accidently put it to 2.2v and it corrupted something in the bootsector of the HD, so had to reinstall windows. I now have the RAM at 1.95v (which seemed liked a fair compromise between the MB wanting 1.8v and the RAM wanting 2.1v) - it is running fine.

That's nice to hear. Because I'm getting that mobo next and I need to know what kind of glitches it's got.
