hey, I got a new PC at Christmas and my old PC has been lying around since then gathering dust. Well, today i decided that i'm gonna just use it for storing my old files, so i've taken out some of the now extraneous components. I'm planning on selling these but they are all quite old, what kind of price am i looking at being able to sell them for?

Here's the list of them:

Nvidia GeForce2 MX
Creative SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 (that's what it says on it)
Addon 54mbps/11g Wireless LAN card
(i probs won't be able to sell this one) an unbranded modem card. (modem is the only word on it so i assume that's what it is.)

All these cards are PCI (NOT express)

I know i'm probably looking at a small amount but does anyone have any idea of the prices i could get?

I suggest buying cheap parts to build computer and use it for some cool stuff because you have wireless card, or when you build it sell it to someone with Linux (Because it works better on old computers and especially with nVidia card, you can test with livecd if its right) i suggest Ubuntu.

The sell price would be something around the 50euros.
If you buy more expensive parts you can sell it more tho.

Keep it as a backup system. I have my old pc just for emergencies when my new one goes down, especially if you need to be on the net without a break. Its also great for testing your networking code in a real environment. I use a cat5 crossover cable. Although you won't be able to test accurately for network latencies, its the closest you can get to a production environment.
You can also use both PCs in a cluster, for distributed computing as well.

If at first you don't succeed, relax. You're like the rest of us.

Would probably fetch ~£5 or so. It's not very useful for modern games, obviously, but for constructing a cheap PC to play some older games it could be useful to someone

EDIT: Actually, probably not worth trying to sell if it's PCI as you say . The AGP variant is fairly useless nowadays, but the PCI one is much more so.

I'm not familiar with SB models, but most non-bog-standard sound cards will fetch a bit of cash (no idea how much though, but the latest Creative X-Fi things are about £50-£60. Subtract based on age)

Might be worth eBaying. I know WLAN expansion cards for laptops still sell quite well (my brother recently bought an 11g expansion card for an old laptop for £12) so I assume internal ones for PCs probably do too.

If it's a generic fax/modem thing, don't even bother trying to sell it. These things are useless to the majority, and are literally everywhere.

@mamaji:

I am keeping the PC, i just want to sell some of these components because i'm obviously not going to use it for playing/making games any more so i tohught i'd get rid of these components. I can still plug in and use the net if my main PC died (god forbid XD)

yeah, i didn't think i'd be able to sell that one.

and i'll have a look around on eBay to find what some cards have gone for in the past.

Thanks for helping.

I have the SB Live! 24 bit external. Pretty sweet sound card actually, and Creative is still releasing updates compatible with it.
